In June 1963 Bishop Gatimu of Kenya, Africa, presided at Saints Peter and Paul during the deaconate ordination of six seminarians. Monsignor Stenger challenged parishioners to support Bishop Gatimu's efforts in Africa, and the African Bishop, in turn, named a church in Kenya after Saints Peter and Paul. The support of the parish continued for a number of years, particularly through "Skip-A-Meal" collections.
In December 1964, Monsignor Stenger affirmed his support of Catholic missionary efforts during a 69-day global trip coinciding with a Eucharistic Congress meeting in Bombay, India. Traveling with Monsignor Eugene Luke, pastor of St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn, the men lived, whenever possible, with religious communities in the countries they visited.
