THE SUPREME COURT RULINGS: A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOP |

Two very recent rulings from the Supreme Court are in sharp conflict with the official teachings and positions of The Episcopal Church.

The Episcopal Church has been very clear on these two issues for decades:
I share this with you to urge you to read and ponder the teaching of The Episcopal Church. The positions are nuanced and grounded in our theological perspective shaped by the promises of the Baptismal Covenant. We are further rooted in a rejection of a literal understanding of Scripture, but open to the movement of God in Scripture, Tradition and Reason (that includes lived experience). Please consider carefully the teaching of your Episcopal Church.
As Episcopalians, we are also committed to civic engagement. Our Church has rejected sectarianism and withdrawal from the public. Through the years, we have honored the separation of Church and State while increasingly striving for a just and equitable nation for all people.
As citizens of a democratic republic, we are called to be engaged in the political processes; respect civil authorities while challenging injustices (even to the point of non-violent civil disobedience); and to reject all forms of violence in thought, word, and action from others and, especially, in ourselves. As Christians, we do this with the example and teaching of Jesus Christ (I think this especially grounded in the Sermon on the Mount [Matthew 5-7]), and the continued grace of the Holy Spirit. As Episcopalians, our faith is formed through our liturgy (the practices and prayers of communal worship), engaging Scripture (as individuals and in community), and applying reason with honest dialogue (even in respectful disagreement) to both our faith and the realities of the world around us.
We are in a time of radical change as settled understandings of over a half a century are overturned. Violence (including political violence) is on the rise and yet access to guns is increasing. It is times like these that I turn to the simple teaching of the Letter of James (3:17-18 [Common English Bible translation]): “What of the wisdom from above? First, it is pure, and then peaceful, gentle, obedient, filled with mercy and good actions, fair, and genuine. Those who make peace sow the seeds of justice by their peaceful acts.”
Please join me in a prayer from page 824 of the Book of Common Prayer (28. In Times of Conflict):
O God, you have bound us together in a common life. Help us, in the midst of our struggles for justice and truth, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work together with mutual forbearance and respect; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRESIDING BISHOP CALLS EPISCOPALIANS TO
'A SEASON OF PRAYER FOR REVIVAL'

Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Michael Curry invites Episcopalians everywhere to mark the season after Pentecost with 30 days of prayer leading up to and encompassing the 80th General Convention in Baltimore, Maryland.
“A Season of Prayer for Revival”—from June 12 through July 11—will feature daily prayers drawn from the Book of Common Prayer. Individuals can sign up online to receive the prayers and inspirational messages via email. The prayers will also be posted daily on social media accounts for The Episcopal Church and Forward Movement.
“As we move toward and adapt to a shorter, smaller General Convention, I invite every Episcopalian—whether you’re in Baltimore or Alaska or Honduras, whether you’re a deputy, a bishop, or a new member sitting in the pews—I invite all of us to pause each day just for a moment to pray for the expansive, reviving power of the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts and minds,” Curry said. “We are people of common prayer; may we embrace this season as an opportunity for us all to become a church that truly lives, looks, and loves like Jesus.”

Located on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu, Camp Mokule'ia began providing children and youth with summer camp experiences in 1947. Camp Mokule'ia offers Residential Camp, Day Camp, and Family Camp programs.
While at camp, campers have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with peers, play games, sing songs, gain confidence from trying new things, and learn more about themselves and the world around them. Experiencing the beauty of God's creation and living in genuine Christian community provide meaningful opportunities for spiritual transformation with the support of our caring counselors and staff. Campers of all (or no) faith backgrounds are welcome.
Camp Mokule'ia is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii.
There are residential, day camp and family camp programs available.

Helen Mitsui Shared Blessings Thrift Shop in Kilauea is seeking Volunteers for 2022.
Each volunteer shift is a 2-4 hour commitment for a minimum of one day per week. Experience in Retail, Customer Service, and/or Retail a plus, but not required.
Volunteers are invaluable to serving our community. Our goal is to reuse, repurpose and recycle goods — keeping as much as possible out of landfill — while providing our community with access to reasonably priced, quality merchandise.
Here are ways you can help:
* Greeters welcome shoppers and monitor our COVID guidelines.
* Customer Care helps shoppers to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
* Merchandisers organize departments, restock the floor and display retail goods.
* Philanthropy distributes merchandise to organizations in need.
* Donation Intakers receive, sort and process donations.
Work-from-Home volunteers help prepare merchandise for sale. We are especially looking for help in these areas:
* Games: checking games to ensure all components are intact
* Stationery: packaging up cards and envelopes
* Holidays: preparing merchandise for Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentines, 4th of July, and more
* School, Office, Art Craft Supplies: organizing and packaging materials for reuse
* Toys: sorting, cleaning, and packaging toys
* Hardware: sorting and packaging tools, materials, electronics and appliances
Requirements?
*Team players with a genuine interest in serving the community and contributing to the reuse movement.
* Willingness to support COVID-19 safety measures set by Shared Blessings
* Physically able to lift 50 pounds (Merchandisers and Donation Intakers only)
Benefits?
Serving the community and our environment is rewarding work. We have a lot of fun! New merchandise is donated daily, so the element of surprise and wonder is constant. Get a first peek and more!
