Honor Juneteenth this coming Sunday, June 19th at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center from 1-3pm. While we will celebrate the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to free the remaining enslaved people in the United States, we also remember the tragic history of slavery in our country.
Bring the whole family to Waterfront Park to learn more about Juneteenth from local speakers, musicians, and artists. Order West African food from Aunt Dolly's or bring your own picnic. We'll see you there.

Students Receive BCF Scholarships |
|
Some students entered the auditorium whispering and giggling, excited to learn about the awards they would receive that night, while others sat quietly and patiently waiting to accept their scholarships. The excitement of the crowd was palpable, as families and friends overflowed the Bainbridge High School auditorium to honor the future of each student.
Bainbridge Community Foundation was proud to award scholarships to 16 deserving students at the BHS Class of 2022 Awards Night on Thursday, June 9 through the scholarships described below.

To receive scholarships, students have to have shown outstanding character or initiative in a particular area, such as community service, STEM work, the arts, or athletics.
In the words of Ralph Munro, who presented BCF’s Munro Family Scholarship and the Class of 1961 Scholarship, “We hope each and every one of you becomes an American hero.” Munro was telling a story about his BHS friend, Robert B. Wade, who had become a top-secret intelligence officer and whose family is generously supporting the BHS Class of '61 Scholarship in his name. Every student at BHS has the potential to be an American hero whether it is through the arts, through science, or another area of strength.
We are so proud of our seniors and scholarship awardees. Congratulations to all!

Bainbridge Gives has been extended, and is now open through 9AM Monday, June 20! Now is your last chance to join the movement.
Bainbridge Gives is a critical part of BCF's Community Grants Cycle (CGC), and is an opportunity for Island residents to support causes that matter most to them. All applications listed on www.BainbridgeGives.org (the CGC's online grant catalog) have been vetted and are recommended for funding by 50 volunteers from our community. This year we received 61 applications from all sectors, and the BCF grants evaluation team approved all applications for a total of over $525,000 in requests-- more than we can fund on our own. Since its inception in 2008, Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association (BIJAEMA) has been primarily responsible for capital facilities development at the Eagledale Memorial site. This year it will take the first substantial steps toward construction of a Visitor Center. To date, BIJAEMA has operated without paid staff. Board members and other volunteers have donated time and expertise as necessary to make that possible. Construction of the Visitor Center project has a preliminary budget of approximately $3.4 million, not including BIJAEMA operating overhead.
The Board has determined that it is necessary to retain an individual capable of overseeing a Capital Campaign and managing the day-to-day affairs of the organization. The position would be 20 hrs/week for 18-24 months. Title and compensation would be commensurate with experience. To apply, send letters of interest and resumes to info@bijaema.org.

Development Director: The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation (BIP&TF) seeks an experienced, personable, community-minded individual who shares their vision of Bainbridge Island being a place with an abundance of community-inspired parks and trails enjoyed by all. Building on community creativity and inspiration, BIP&TF mobilizes resources to improve parks and trails on Bainbridge Island. The Development Director leads BIP&TF’s fundraising programs, collaborating with the Executive Director on planning the Foundation’s annual development strategies as informed by the strategic plan.
