The Federal Communications Commission launched the “Keep Americans Connected” pledge in which communication companies will waive late fees, not cutoff service for lack of payment, and open hot-spots for increased accessibility to the internet. Broadband access has been qualified a Super Social Determinant. Now that most services are going virtual, many of our already disconnected members will be even more disconnected. The following communication companies launched the following initiatives.

Sparklight (formerly CableOne) will be making unlimited data available on all internet services for the next 30 days and waiving late fees for its customers for the next 60 days. 

CenturyLink has committed to waive late fees and to not terminate a residential or small business customer’s service due to financial circumstances associated with COVID-19. They are also suspending data usage limits for consumer customers during this time period due to COVID-19.

Cox Communications is expanding their hot spots and strengthening their wi-fi so that students who don’t already have internet can find in various locations.Free access to over 650,000 Wi-Fi hot spots. Visit  https://www.cox.com/residential/internet/learn/cox-hotspots.html.

Comcast- New Internet Essentials customers will receive two free months of Internet service, which is available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month plus tax. Xfinity WiFi Free for Everyone- Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. Learn more here .
