Dear Rotarians,
This week I participated in a call with the other Rotary Presidents from our area. We discussed the upcoming District Conference in Leavenworth May 17-21. On that subject, today I have two simple messages for you:
First, attend the conference!
- It will open your eyes to the bigger world of Rotary.
- You will make new friends.
- You will come back to our club energized and enthused.
- Leavenworth is fun!
- Leavenworth is close to home!
Most of the time these conferences are many hours from home. This one is a scant hour’s drive. I mentioned on Tuesday that our goal is for five club members to attend. But let’s get to 10!
Second, the Leavenworth club needs our help to assist in organizing the conference.
- Specifically, are you a person good with numbers and bookkeeping? The conference leaders are looking for team members to assist with accounting.
- Do you like to organize events with kids? The leaders want to have a hundred kids attending the conference and need team members to outreach to schools.
- Do you like to interface with sound and food vendors to create successful events? The leaders need a point person to work with these paid groups.
I will be reaching out to our membership this coming week to identify those with interest and capacity to serve. Please let me know if you would like to assist!
Finally, I was happy to receive a phone call from a Rotarian who left us a few years back and who wants to rejoin this spring. He is in a new stage of life and looks forward to contributing to the club. I like receiving those calls.
Thank you for all you contribute to our club.
Yours in Rotary,
Guy Evans

Foundation Moment - Rotary Peace Fellowships
Each year, Rotary awards up to 130 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders to study at Rotary Peace Centers at universities around the world. Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, these professionals develop their capacity to become effective catalysts for peace. Rotary Peace Fellows earn either master’s degrees or professional development certificates in subjects related to peace and development. Since 2002, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,500 fellows who work in over 115 countries in education, in government roles, and at international organizations.
Rotary members like you can shape the next generation of peace leaders by identifying and interviewing potential candidates. Learn more about the Rotary Peace Fellowships and the Rotary Peace Centers.

Twenty-four beds have been delivered to the Iltumaro Primary School as a part of our ongoing project there. The girls will soon be sleeping in one of the eight bedrooms in the dormitory. The parents are responsible for mattresses and bed linens. Now that the beds have been delivered we will have a "soft opening" of the dormitory. Later in the year when we are able to be on hand, there will be a formal opening of the dormitory, dining hall, toilets, and teacher housing. Come and join us in October and see a celebration you will not forget.

911 Glass Rescue Recognizes Winery Sponsors
911 Glass Rescue recently recognized its winery sponsors via these beautiful handmade gifts incorporating the glass sand and aggregate made by Paulie the Pulverizer. These lovely bottles and frames are the handiwork of the very talented Jan Sblendorio, a resident of Manson. We are in the process of delivering these offerings to the 15 sponsors that enabled us to purchase Paulie and hope to distribute more to the many additional wineries that are using our service regularly. The wineries have been unanimous in their appreciation of this lovely gesture. When you meet Jan, please thank her for her generous contribution of time and talent to create this special recognition! | 911 Glass Rescue Supports ShelterBox
Over the past two weeks, 911 Glass Rescue has collected more than $250 from the community to go toward the purchase of a ShelterBox, in support of the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. Our club has also received $2,000 in member donations which will cover the cost of 2 ShelterBoxes. Additional contributions to get us to the next level, and purchase a third ShelterBox, would be appreciated. Please give your donations to club treasurer Dan Hodge or send your donation to Lake Chelan Rotary (ShelterBox). PO Box 601, Chelan, WA 98816.
