COMING UP AT SOUTH GATE

“I said, ‘I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth as with a muzzle, while the wicked are in my presence’.” Psalm 39:1

I love words. I love talking. I love conveying a thought. I love discussion. I love verbal word play. I can talk to just about anyone, anywhere, anytime. I process verbally so it’s not surprising that I can start a discussion on one side of the fence and end the conversation on the exact opposite. Math gives me hives but English- yes, please!

The problem with talking is when it gets you into trouble. “Oh wait, that’s not what I meant.” “What I was trying to say is…”. “I didn’t mean it like that!” “That’s not what I said at all!” Think of all the arguments, problems, and feelings that come out of poor communication. Don’t get me started on nuances like tone! Oy vey! Here’s an example: “I never said she stole my money” has 7 different meanings depending on the stressed word.

Between what Psalm 39 says and what James 3 has to say about our mouth, we need to take our words a bit more seriously. Our words have great power- to encourage and to give life to another person. They also have the power to tear down and give great insecurities that can follow a person for life! We can build others up when they aren’t even part of the conversation. We can ruin someone by what we say when the person is not around. Think about the words that you allow to escape your lips. Be the person that assumes the best. Be the person that shows honor and grace with your words. Be the person who shines for Jesus in what you say. I read this meme and it sums it up nicely: The real flex is how many people’s lives you can positively impact. That doesn’t cost money or even time. It often only costs us our words.

Living encouraged,

Brandi

South Gate VBS at the Park

When: June 1

From: 9-12

Where: McCauley Park, Nixa MO.

What is VBS at the park you may ask,

VBS at the park is a one-day initiative where we take the Gospel message that is presented through crafts, games, songs, Bible teaching, and relationships and implement these things in an outreach effort in our community. Our community will have a blast while every activity, Bible study, and song points them to Jesus.

This will create a fun and energetic day that will have lasting memories and lock Bible truths in a child’s heart and mind for a lifetime.

VBS is an intentional evangelistic opportunity great for on-campus or off-campus community outreach, so we are taking VBS into our community this year!

Would you like to go out into our community and engage families for Christ?

If you would like to be involved then register to volunteer!

This family outreach opportunity will offer crafts, games, songs, Bible teaching, a free BBQ and the opportunity to invite many families to our Church on Sunday June 2 for a VBS celebration where they will hear the Gospel again and have Andy’s Ice Cream after service!
