June 21st-22nd
Learn about the hazards present in most construction projects and be able to identify, and then avoid, reduce, or eliminate job hazards, and learn about required record-keeping procedures. Upon completion of the course, students receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-Hour course completion card.
July 13th
Learn how to establish a construction lien for contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers on commercial, industrial, office, and residential projects. Know the critical time periods and how to fill out the notice of furnishing, claim of lien, sworn statement, lien waiver, and more. 
July 14th
Learn about the hazards of an arc flash event and how to set up an arc flash safety program based on the NFPA 70E “Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace,” covering the factors affecting arc flash hazards, selection & use of PPE for arc flash protection and equipment labeling requirements.

This course teaches the principles of basic life support for adults, detailing hands-only CPR, first aid, choking in adults, signs, and symptoms of heart attack and stroke, and treatment for shock. It explains how AEDs work, and why they are a critical part of emergency cardiac care. Certification is valid for a period of two years.

The Next CAMSafety Committee Meeting Takes Place July 11th
Each CAMSafety Committee meeting begins with a presentation from an invited guest. During the upcoming meeting at 1:00 p.m. on July 11th, we will welcome Bob Kirkby, Industrial Hygienist with the Michigan State Police, for an update on opioids and some of the work he and his colleagues are doing through the AIHA Opioids Working Group, regarding resources for employers. Any individual employed by a CAM member company is invited to participate.

Crain's Releases List of Women Who've "Literally Shaped the World We Live In"
Congratulations to the inaugural list of Crain's Notable Women in Construction, Design & Architecture. Trench Safety Stand-Down Takes Place June 20th-24th
The 2022 Trench Safety Stand Down takes place the week of June 20th-24th. OSHA has established trenching and excavation hazards as the Agency’s Priority Goal. OSHA established a National Emphasis Program (NEP) for Excavating and Trenching inspections, and MIOSHA has been conducting inspections related to this NEP.

MIOSHA welcomes the opportunity to talk with employers and employees about the hazards of trenching and excavation work in a non-enforcement capacity. If you are interested in having a MIOSHA representative(s) speak briefly at a jobsite during the week of June 20th-24th, please EMAIL > your request to CAMSafety.
The Engineering Society of Detroit Celebrates Its 125th Anniversary
In 2020, The Engineering Society of Detroit embarked on its 125th year of promoting the engineering and scientific professions. ESD is celebrating this accomplishment at its annual dinner on Thursday, June 23rd, at Ford Field. Also taking place at this event are the ESD Construction & Design Awards and the ESD Annual Awards. MDOT & MIOSHA Bring the National Work Zone Memorial to Michigan
MDOT and MIOSHA have collaborated to bring the National Work Zone Memorial to Michigan to honor workers who have lost their lives on roadways and also remind everyone about the importance of work zone safety. From June 29th to July 6th, the National Work Zone Memorial will be on display at the Clare Rest Area along M-10. CLICK HERE > to learn more. This Fourth of July weekend, MIOSHA reminds drivers to be safe and to remember "that the roadway is a workplace for some people. Our mutual goal must be that every employee goes home at the end of every shift."
Electrification 2022 Takes Place This Month in Charlotte
EPRI is hosting the Electrification 2022 International Conference & Exposition on June 28th‑30th at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC. The in‑person event features immersive pre‑conference workshops, insightful agenda sessions, a comprehensive exposition, and multiple networking functions with a goal of accelerating progress toward a low-carbon power sector and net-zero economy with targeted, equitable electrification solutions. This is an entry-level position that requires attention to detail and the ability to extract pertinent information from construction specifications and/or drawings for input into a database.
