Chair's Message:

driveHG Title Sponsor

We are thrilled to announce that driveHG is back this year as title sponsor for not only the LO300 and Susan Hood trophy Race but for the LOSHRS series as well. driveHG has been a huge support to offshore racing for many years and have been instrumental in our success. Special thanks to Andrew Lennox and his team for their enthusiasm. If you are contemplating buying a car, reach out to them and let them know that you support LOOR sponsors. I speak from first hand experience, you won’t be disappointed. Their support and service is excellent!

Preparing for Racing:

It's April and just around the corner - beginning on Friday June 3rd - is the 2022 Susan Hood Trophy Race presented by driveHG (SHTR). Running since 1955 and fondly referred to as the 'Coolest Race on the Lake', the Susan Hood is a 75 nautical mile overnight race that kicks off the racing season. The event is open to fully crewed, short-handed and solo sailors and is followed on Sunday, June 5th with the Lake Ontario Short Handed Racing Series (LOSHRS) Race #1 – a 16 nautical mile Course Race.

Registration for all Lake Ontario Offshore Racing events is open. The Early Bird Deadline for the SHTR and LOSHRS Race #1 is April 30, 2022.

Use the links on the LOOR website to sign yourself up for one or ALL the races. And please remember, if you are new to offshore racing and have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us at info@LOOR.ca  or contact your club LOOR Ambassador. We'll help get you to the start line.

NEW THIS YEAR - LO300 Entries capped at 90

This year we are celebrating the 32nd LO300 Challenge presented by driveHG. To ensure that YB Trackers are available for every participant, entries are capped at 90 paid entries. The precedence of an entry will be based on the date and time of the payment in full of the total applicable fee.

Safety:

Ontario Sailing is offering several sessions of the one and two day Offshore Personal Survival courses. These courses are highly recommended for sailors participating in offshore races, especially overnight, and those doing extended cruising whether on the Great Lakes or blue water.

Crew Bank: Need Crew or Interested in Crewing?

If you are a sailor and interested in participating in one of the Lake Ontario Offshore Races, or a skipper who needs crew, use the Crew/Boats Boards on the Yacht Scoring Registration and Official Document page.

Go to the Crew Bank page on the LOOR site.

Registering sooner is better so you can get together and see or exhibit strengths or determine any gaps in experience. LOOR strongly recommends getting to know your new crew or skipper before going offshore or overnight races.

Sail Rating / Handicap

Sail Measurement Certificate

If you’re purchasing a new sail or having a sail serviced at a sailmaker’s, it’s to your benefit to have the sailmaker measure the sails and provide you with a Sailmakers’ Sail Measurement Certificate. This will save having to measure the sail later. This especially applies to older sails as they shrink in the dimensions that are measured for handicap rating. They may even shrink enough to generate a slight change in your rating!
