A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Cape Fear Community College
Dear Sea Devil Community,

Spring has officially arrived and it is a beautiful time of year. We are surrounded by reminders of new beginnings and second chances.

Speaking of which, April has been designated as Second Chance Month by the US Department of Justice. The Pathway Home Project, a $3.9 million grant awarded to CFCC in 2021, is designed to provide educational services and support for successful second chances. CFCC partnered with Leading Into New Communities, Inc. (LINC) to offer continuous support to individuals while they are transitioning home. One of the key pieces to the success of this program is employer participation. If you are willing to give someone a second chance, please contact CFCC at ph2@cfcc.edu to learn about how you can help.

Registration for the summer and fall terms are officially underway. Students may choose from a variety of start dates and course-delivery formats. Our Advising Department is ready to assist students with their next step. Visit cfcc.edu/register to get more information and register for classes.

Please help us to spread the word about the benefit of community colleges. We are breaking through the stigma of community college as a limited educational resource. Our students have a multitude of affordable choices from short term training for a lucrative career to completing the first two years of a four year degree. We appreciate your efforts to share our story so we can continue to gain ground in erasing misconceptions about community colleges.

I wish you a wonderful spring.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Jim Morton, CFCC President

Second Chance Month
CFCC and LINC are asking local employers to join their efforts in supporting justice-involved individuals who are transitioning home. The Pathway Home Project Grant was awarded to CFCC in 2021 to provide educational services for area prisoners and those recently released from incarceration.

From Our Graduates

"I applied for the Apprenticeship program through New Hanover County Fire Rescue (NHCFR) which provided me the opportunity to train at CFCC. The instructors were the best of the best. Not only did they teach the fundamentals of firefighting, but they also taught self-resilience and coached us through the toughest moments during the academy. The life lessons and friendships I have made in this program will stay with me throughout my career and even after that. I chose this career because I’ve always wanted to make a difference. The thought of being there to help someone on possibly their worst day makes me look forward to my future in this field. Now that I have graduated, I will be working for New Hanover County Fire Rescue." - Lakyn Stoner
