How do we inspire and encourage our students to become daily readers?
At school: For the months of December - February, every Trinity student is going to be challenged to read 20 minutes a day in connection with a program called FIRE (Finding Importance in Reading Everyday.) Students will be provided a paper reading log at the start of each month where they can keep track of their progress. Reading logs will be turned in at the completion of each month and the data will be used to keep kids engaged and excited about the program as it progresses.
Individual student goal is: 1,800 minutes
20 minutes a day for 90 days!
At home: Model positive reading practices yourself! Plan intentional time to read together with your student every day. Have discussions around the books you are reading. Take trips to the library together to find books that interest each member of your family. Tell your student how proud you are of them and their reading habits.
