Christian Formation:
The Bible in 90 Days

Have you read the Bible cover to cover? Would you like a more comprehensive understanding of the Bible? Have you started reading the Bible hundreds of times only to drop off right after Genesis?!?

Then do we have a challenge for you! Join us in the Parish Hall Thursday evenings at 6pm and read the ENTIRE Bible in just 90 days... even the stuff the lectionary doesn't cover! You'll read around 12 pages a day on your own and we'll meet every Thursday for an hour or so to discuss. We'll be finishing up in December and you can finally say you've read the whole Bible!

We've had two sessions, but it's not too late to join us!

If you are interested, please let Kathleen know and she can help you figure out how much to read to get caught up.  You can order new or used copies of the books needed here:

1. Course Bible (Please see the heavily discounted used copies)

2. Participant Guide (Please see the heavily discounted used copies)

3. The Essential Bible Companion (OPTIONAL) (Please see the heavily discounted used copies)

UPDATE: Rebuild. Restore. Renew.

This summer, we began seeking $30,000 to Rebuild, Restore, and Renew St.. Andrew's. And you went above and beyond pledging $55,000- almost twice our ask!

Of that, we have already received over $35,000, which we have started putting to good use. As of today, we have:

  • Repaired one AC unit in the sanctuary and completely replaced another.
  • Started work on the library to get the building ready to rent. See the before and after pictures below!

Keep an eye out for more promised improvements over the coming months.

Office Volunteers Needed!

Could you answer phones for a few hours a week? Would nothing give you more joy than to shred documents from 1978 on our new industrial strength shredder? Do you really like scanning things?

We have the need for office volunteers for some short-term special projects for just a few hours a week. It doesn't have to be a set time or day or even every week. Call Kathleen or just stop by when you have some free time.

Memorial Garden Cleanup

If you have any sort of memento or tchotchke by a loved one's spot in the memorial garden, please be sure to remove it by October 1st so that we may clean up the garden for All Saints Day. All items will be removed.

St. Andrew's will have our Annual Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 2nd, at 10:30 a.m. to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis. Please bring your poop bags and your furry, feathered, finny, or scaly friends on a leash or in a carrier for a blessing.

For pets who may not do well inside for an hour and a half service, we will bless any pictures (print or digital) of your furry friends or any stuffed animals or tokens of your animals you might be willing to bring.

Additionally, you can bring your pet up to the church after the service for our 3rd Annual Drive Thru Blessing of the Animals! Mtr. Lisa and Deacon Mike will be in the parking lot from 12:00-12:30 with communion for the humans and holy water for the animals.

Men's Grill & Chill

Join the men of the church on Wednesday October 5th at 6 pm for steaks, beers, and fellowship at the LongHorn Steakhouse on Arlington Expressway.

Around the Diocese

Daughters of the King Fall Assembly

St. Andrew’s Daughters of the King chapter was represented at the Fall Assembly by Carol Childers, Laura Ashley, Julie Dulaney, Tricia Pulsifer, and Lib Otto. The assembly was held September 17 at Church of Our Saviour. Bishop Howard was our speaker and the President of the Assembly of the Diocese of Florida, Julie Dulaney, presided over the meeting . We enjoyed a wonderful day connecting with our sisters from around the diocese.

New Update:

The Bishop's Election

Some of you noticed that we reverted back to praying for "Our Future Bishop" this past Sunday. There have been some developments in the Bishop's Election. While we were hoping to have more answers for you by the time of this publication, we expect to hear more from the Diocese shortly and want to make sure you are up to date.

As you probably know by now, the Diocese of Florida met for a Special Convention May 14 to elect a successor to Bishop Howard. (A “bishop coadjutor” serves alongside a diocesan bishop until the latter retires, at which time the former becomes the new diocesan bishop.) A quorum of voting delegates must be reached in both the lay house and the clergy house. Based on pre-registration numbers, it became apparent just a few days before the Special Convention that quorum of clergy would not be reached.

Various long-standing rules and regulations were quickly worked around in the 48 hours prior to the election to allow for a hybrid election (online and in-person). The election proceeded and an election of a new Bishop was proclaimed on the third ballot.

Within days a formal procedural protest was lodged by more than 10% of the delegates, which prompted a mandatory investigation by the Court of Review of the Episcopal Church- an impartial board made up of people from various diocese around the country charged with investigating the procedural objections made. The court’s report came back in early August, finding that important and necessary rules were not followed. You can read the Court of Review's report here.

Despite ongoing review over the course of the summer, the diocese moved forward with relocating the bishop-elect to Jacksonville, giving him an office at diocesan headquarters and a salary.

Based on the findings of the court, the bishop-elect has now withdrawn his acceptance of his election, but is still listed on the diocesan website as a member of staff. He has written that he still hopes to be our bishop, perhaps via a new election. Last week Bishop Howard made a video explaining the diocese’s official responses to the court’s findings and calling for a new election as soon as possible.

Standing Committee announced their intention to hold an election with a limited number of candidates at Camp Weed on November 19th. They also published a new process for candidates to be added by petition. The petition period is now open.

We pray the Holy Spirit will intercede and lead us to a path which will help us to unify and unite the diocese, allowing all voices to be heard and appreciated, while following the constitution and canons set forth by the National and Local Church.

No matter what happens on the Diocesan or National level, we at St. Andrew's will continue to focus on our mission tending to our little corner of the Kingdom. I hope you will join me in our continued prayer and work.
