Collaboration of the Year
Reliance Health staff-Deanna Delaney, Autumn Bouchard, and the Norwich Police Department were awarded the Collaboration of the Year award by the Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce during their 12th Annual Social Service Recognition Award Ceremony. This award highlights the hard work, passion, and dedication this collaboration has provided to our Norwich community and how they have gone above and beyond the call of duty in order to positively impact the people of our region, and improve the quality of life here. From Sears to a Wellness Center
With grant support from the Lord Foundation, we were able to transform our lower level at our Morosky Building location, from an old appliance store, Sears, into a modern Wellness Center for our members and staff. Our newly renovated space includes a large open space, kitchen area, meeting rooms, bathrooms, laundry room, and Career Closet for individuals to pick out specific clothing needed for various life events. Our future vision of this space includes holding wellness groups, social gatherings, all agency events, internal/external trainings, and continual collaborations with community providers. If you would like to help fulfill our future vision, donations are welcomed. Please contact Heather-Renaé Paul, Agency Development Director at 860-887-6536 x. 264 or email, to do so.
Did You Know?
December 10th
Human Rights Day remembers the day the General Assembly of the UN adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. It is the most translated document around the world and is available in over 500 languages. It has inspired countries and people alike to start treating every person with the right to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. On Human Rights Day we acknowledge the importance of this document and the importance of human rights.
A Joyful, Toyful, Partnership
This year the Tommy Toy Fund, in partnership with the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, will be pairing up with Reliance Health to use our newly renovated lower level as its Norwich location for the event! The Tommy Toy Fund is a charitable organization that collects donations of toys for local children in New London and Windham Counties. The program is intended to help children, who will receive few or no holiday gifts without this assistance. We are very excited to be able to partner with Tommy Toy Fund and showcase our new space! The event will be held on December 15th &16 from 9-7pm.

Everyday Happenings
Share Your Roots
During the month of November, staff shared their Native American roots by making traditional dreamcatchers and medicine bags using turkey feathers and sinew. This was to celebrate Native American Heritage Month! We also learned through various 'all agency' emails about the Native American tribes-the The Mashantucket Pequots, Mohegan Pequots, and Eastern Pequots that are part of our local community.
#WinterFest5k
This year our festive race was a virtual one giving participants four days to run or walk anywhere they chose to complete the 5K. We had 106 registrants participate in this fun family event allowing them to get moving and active during the holiday weekend! All 5k participants received a high-quality long sleeve technical shirt and a snowflake race medal.
To celebrate Reliance Health’s 45th Anniversary, kids were encouraged to get active for 45 minutes during the challenge, highlighting the connection between physical activity and mental wellness. All kids earned a finishers medal as well! This event was a fundraiser to help support Reliance Health’s mission of enhancing health through mental wellness!
Holiday Cheer
Yet again, Reliance Health participated in the Norwich Winterfest Parade! This year the theme was How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Our float focused on how the Grinch's heart "grew three sizes that day" while handing out lots of gifts to the parade attendees along the parade route downtown. The day truly had its holiday spirit with snowfall as the parade kicked off!
Donor Highlights
$500+, A Trunk Full of Love, and a Winner!
In October, Reliance Health was honored to partner with The Eastern Connecticut Women's Council of Realtors to participate in their 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat event. During the event, attendees donated either a hygiene product or a monetary donation to our agency. $500+ was raised plus a trunk full of hygiene products for our Care Cabinet, which will benefit members in need. Reliance Health also won was a prize for having one of the top three decorated trunks!
Annual Appeal
Right before Thanksgiving, we mailed out our annual appeal to over 700 community partners in hopes to raise money for our mission of enhancing health through mental wellness. Naturally, an annual appeal is a letter sent out one time per year to established donors, community partners, and other people in our network. We are appreciative of all the donations we have received thus far.
EMployee Spotlight
Meet Tara Beatty!
Tara began working at Reliance (House) Health in 2001 at CAP as a Service Coordinator. She then became the Program Coordinator while completing her Masters’ degree. At that time, RH had just begun exploring clinical roles and she was able to transition to one of the first clinical positions, providing support to SSAP which later merged with GDA (case management programs) to become CSP. Through the years she has been able to expand her areas of focus to include members with traumatic brain injury and developmental disorders, as well as members with more complex presentations that can benefit from positive behavioral support planning. Most recently she completed her Doctorate in Social Work from Southern Connecticut State University this past May!

As part of the clinical team, she provides individual and group therapy as well as complete intake assessments for many of our residential programs and assist in transition planning. She also has been able to develop and facilitate several staff trainings and provide these trainings to several network and community providers while being a part of a collaborative statewide team that provides behavioral health support after disasters or extreme stress events.
We are extremely lucky to have Tara as part of our
family at Reliance Health!
