A Message from Regional Superintendent Patricia Dal Santo
Kane County Community,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! Eight of our nine school districts have already entered the classroom, and on behalf of the Kane Regional Office of Education, we'd like to extend our best wishes to all teachers, staff, and students.

At the ROE, we strive to support and celebrate our educators, students, and schools. As we continue to support our schools, we have a brand new online learning platform launching, Illinois Online Academy , that we are confident will be a great service to our schools.

As the school year progresses, we hope to be a resource for our school districts. We are working to provide a multitude of professional learning opportunities that cover relevant topics such as our upcoming School Anxiety and Digital Threat Assessment workshops, as well as the Kane County Institute Day.

We also aim to celebrate the successes in our schools, and the students and staff in them through events like the Kane County Student Photography Contest in the fall and Educator of the Year in the spring.

If you ever have any suggestions or ideas on how to best benefit from your time in our districts, please contact the ROE.

Thank you,
Regional Superintendent Patricia Dal Santo
Illinois Online Academy Launches Online
Learning Platform for Educators and Students
Illinois Online Academy offers educators access to an online platform for their professional learning needs and is the next phase of Illinois Professional Learning. We have just added over 10 new classes to our current offerings with additions such as: "Try DI: Planning & Preparing a Differentiated Instruction Program", "Understanding Aggression", and "Teaching Elementary Math Conceptually" to name a few! Our online options are growing each month and are offered for both college credit and professional development hours.

We are also excited to announce an option for students to take credit recovery classes through the student portion of Illinois Online Academy! The credit recovery classes are NCAA approved, 100% aligned to Common Core & iNACOL National Standards. Classes are taught by certified teachers experienced in synchronous and asynchronous support.

New Posts from The Progress Report
The Progress Report has updated with two new posts. The first post is about keeping up with the changes educators experience each year, and the second post is focused on interacting with students exhibiting school anxiety/refusal behavior and how to help them through their anxiety.

The Progress Report is a collaborative discussion space for professional learning, with each post written by Katie Algrim, the ROE's Director of Innovative Professional Learning. If there are any topics that you would like to see a post on, please contact Katie Algrim.

Digital Threat Assessment Training
Successful Threat and Risk Assessments can only occur if we have a solid understanding of all data needed to appropriately assess an individual’s potential for violence. The ROE is offering two separate full day trainings for School Administrators, Law Enforcement, and Frontline Community Agencies. One is October 16th and another is October 17th.
