FACULTY SPEAKER
Saturday, June 17 @ 1:00 PM -- SAVE THE DATE
| |
We are pleased to announced an IN PERSON faculty speaker — our first since Covid shut down this beloved annual club tradition. Professor Jon Caris, Director of the Smith College Spatial Analysis Lab, will join us in the Bay Area to educate us on his work in developing a drone code of ethics, and the history of drones at Smith College.
Many of Professor Caris’s initiatives build upon the notion of making invisible, visible. He enjoys creating conditions that afford opportunity to see through a spatial lens, prompting new questions and discussion. Primarily trained as a geographer and environmental planner, Professor Caris received a M.S. in Geo-Environmental Studies from Shippensburg University and a B.A. in Geography from SUNY Geneseo.

Book Club - February 15
Eight of us met on Wednesday the 15th at the home of Diana McDonough to discuss two books by Helene Hanff: “84, Charing Cross Road” and “The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street.” Thanks again for hosting us, Diana.
Not to put too fine a point on it, we loved these books. We laughed at Helene’s sometimes raucous sense of humor, we were touched by the warmth of the various English people who welcomed her on her visit to London, we were in awe of her knowledge of books and her reverence for her favorite authors. We lamented the demise of letter-writing (and then listened in amazement as one member recounted her email relationship with her reed-maker). We recommend these books to all.
Upcoming:
- March 15: “The Dictionary of Lost Words” by Pip Williams. It’s available at Kepler’s.
- April 19: Poetry to be decided
