NEK Council on Aging Quarterly Newsletter

It's Summertime! Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Active!

This quarter we’re highlighting our wellness activities. Wellness seems a natural fit as we enjoy warmer weather, longer days and treats of the summer season.

At the Council, we’re very fortunate to have a group of volunteers who are committed to providing wellness classes that can enhance your overall wellbeing such as Tai Chi, Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, and a host of others to meet your needs. As part of our work with the Falls Prevention Coalition we’re working to increase the number of classes offered and are hoping to return to a pre-Covid wellness option -- aquatic.

For others, wellness comes in the form of summer concerts, barbecues and gardening. Whatever your choice, enjoy all that keeps you moving and grooving! Savor the summer and keep moving to age postively.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of summer,

Meg Burmeister Executive Director

Staff News

Congratulations to Kim Emery who has been promoted to Director, Care & Support (South). Kim will be supervising our case management staff in the Caledonia, Southern Orleans, and Southern Essex counties. Kim started with the NEKCOA in 2005 and has been a valued case manager for hundreds of clients over the past 19 years! She also leads the Veterans Direct Program, assisting veterans to age independently in their home. Thank you Kim for your dedication to our elder friends and neighbors. "Kim brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this new role and we’re thrilled to have someone move into this position with such a diverse and solid background," said Meg Burmeister, NEKCOA Executive Director.

In Memory of Robert Walley

It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of Robert Walley, a dear friend and the former Manager/Chef of the Danville Senior Action Center. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Cathy (pictured with Robert) and their children and grandchildren and visitors to the Center. Robert was a talented chef who was dedicated to making the Center a special place for so many. Thank you Robert for your support of our community. May you rest in peace.
