A Note from Rich and Mike
Dear Bishop Kelly Families,

It has been quite a week here at Bishop Kelly! It was great to have students on campus as fall sports started early Monday morning, followed by Freshman Academy and new Student Orientation on Monday and Tuesday! All faculty and staff came back on Wednesday and they have had three days of reconnecting with their colleagues and welcoming new colleagues, professional development, and getting their classrooms and curriculum ready for next Tuesday. And, final preparations inside and outside the building have been completed.

This is all in preparation for orientation on Monday and the first full day of classes on Tuesday! We are all incredibly excited to be welcoming your children to Bishop Kelly for the 2021-22 school year! To ensure our entire community - students, parents and staff - is aligned and prepared for a terrific year, this BK Alive will cover our Instructional and Operational Plan, and where to find the information we have shared over the summer that you may need to reference prior to the start of school - and likely throughout the school year.

BK 2021 - 2022 Instructional and Operational Plan
Thanks to the over 350 parents who attended or have watched a replay of Wednesday’s Virtual Town Hall. We hope you found it helpful and informative. Thanks also to those of you who sent emails with feedback, questions or comments to townhall@bk.org. We would welcome more and promise to reply within 24 hours. We are also building an FAQ document based on questions we are getting and will post it on the BK Website. If you have not had time to watch it yet, here is the Town Hall Recording (meeting begins at the 4 minute mark.)

The entire 18 page BK 2021-22 Instructional and Operational Plan can be found on the BK website in the Academics section. In our presentation on Wednesday at the Town Hall, we focused on the highlights of the plan. Here is a link to that presentation should you not have time or interest to watch the video or read the entire plan.

If we as a community can work together to execute this plan, as we did with our 2020-21 Instructional and Operational Plan, we will have another very successful school year by all measures. But it will take students, staff, and parents doing all that we can do and control, as outlined in our plan, to ensure a safe, in person, face-to-face learning environment for our students and staff.

Summer Communications Recap
Bishop Kelly Sent out a lot of information over the summer months. Please check out this recap of our summer Just In Time emails and BK Alive emails so you don't miss a thing for Monday.

Student Schedules and Schedule Changes
Student Schedules
Student Schedules and access to Infinite Campus will be available no later than Monday morning. Our host server had required maintenance that has disrupted the scheduling process. Thank you for your patience through this process. Our counseling team is working hard to have everything ready for orientation day on Monday.

All students will receive a hard copy of their schedule at Orientation Day on Monday

Schedule Changes
BK Students who need to request a change to their schedule should fill out THIS GOOGLE FORM as soon as possible. Students requesting a schedule change will need to complete the Google Form rather than emailing their counselor.

Schedules are created based on the requests made in the Spring. Requests for a particular teacher or to be with a particular friend are not approved. Students with incomplete schedules or missing graduation requirements are examples of approved schedule changes. Students will receive an email from the Counseling team when their request has been processed.

Thank you!

Mrs. Haener and Mrs. Herrera

Chef Brian Bockenstette and his staff are gearing up for another delicious year in the BK Cafe. We have some changes to tell you about, and also some standard reminders.

New This Year
  • All food service will return to the cafeteria.

  • Breakfast items will be served during break on Wednesdays (Straight 7 schedule.)

  • The Salad Bar is back and priced by the pound.

  • As part of their COVID relief programs, the USDA and the National School Lunch program are providing free meals to all students enrolled in many Idaho schools, including BK. Students may have one free meal per day, as long at they choose all of the required items for a Reimbursable Meal. A Reimbursable Meal includes at least three of the following five items:
  • protein
  • grain
  • fruit
  • vegetable
  • milk

  • An example of a reimbursable meal would be - Pulled pork sandwich, applesauce, milk. Or, an apple, veggies and dip, and a milk.
  • Our servers and cashiers will help students understand what qualifies as a free meal.
  • The Salad bar is not included in this program. Neither are a la carte items or bottles of water. Students will still need to have funds available on their cafeteria account for those purchases.

BK Cafe Menus
The weekly menu for the BK Cafe can be found here, on the BK Cafe Menu & Lunch Accounts Page of our website. (Use the Life at BK Navigation at the top of the page to get to the BK Cafe Page.)

Student Cafeteria Accounts
Bishop Kelly uses My Payments Plus for cafeteria accounts. You can manage your student's account online, including adding money to their account, seeing how much they spend each day, and getting alerts when account balances are low.

Visit the BK Cafe Menu & Lunch Accounts page for a tutorial video and login access to My Payments Plus.

Free and Reduced Meals
Bishop Kelly students who meet certain requirements may qualify for free or reduced price meals in the cafeteria. Information and application materials can be found on the BK Cafe Menu & Lunch Accounts page of our website.

Important Action Item for BK Students who are new, or have new laptops
Before you come to BK with a new laptop this year, please take about 10 minutes at home to watch these videos and prepare your laptop for connecting to the BK WIFI. You only need to watch one, just choose the one that applies to your type of laptop.

Thank you!

We Need Parent Ambassadors!
Bishop Kelly Parent Ambassadors are an important part of our school community. Throughout the year, we rely on these dedicated volunteers to build community here at Bishop Kelly.

Currently we need Parent Ambassadors for two important volunteer roles, parents to staff the BK Spirit Store this school year, and to help with the Annual Welcome Back BBQ.

The BK Spirit Store is looking for volunteers for the 2021-2022 school year. The spirit store needs immediate help for the Back to School BBQ on 8/25/21. Volunteers are also need for home football games and store hours throughout the school week. Please email Dianne Schlafer at di4iu70@me.com to volunteer.

Parents are needed for food prep, serving food, grilling, set up, and clean up for our annual community building Welcome Back BBQ. There are also volunteer opportunities for students (set up and clean up) needing volunteer hours.
