Rabbi Silvestri's Round Up
|
Immediately following the laws that were given at Har Sinai, Mount Sinai, in last week’s parsha, the Torah directs our attention to the structure of the Mishkan, the Tabernacle. Beginning with this week’s parsha, Parshat Terumah and continuing into the next, we explore the architectural designs of the house of Hashem and the designs of the clothing of the Kohanim in the next.

Rodeo, Firetrucks, and Clowns!
Rodeo, log cabins, and beginning preparations for Purim are just some of the exciting things that happened in ECE4 this week. While learning about Texas and the rodeo, Morah Aviva taught the children some of the special symbols of Texas which they then created a Texas symbols collage which included, a cowboy boot, cowboy hat, bluebonnet, and a handprint Texas flag! The students had so much fun decorating with animal patterns, markers, crayons, paint, and glue sticks. Everyone was super excited to build log cabins and other structures with the Lincoln logs in the Blocks Center. They also had a special visit from the local fire station - firefighters with their fire truck! The class listened as the fire fighter explained what tools were kept on the truck, observed all the gear they have to wear when on a call, and learned some special safety rules. The best part was watching the sirens and lights blinking on and off! The class began Purim preparations with silly leytzan (clown) plates in honor of Rosh Chodesh Adar.

You've Got Mail
Mr. Simon’s third graders are studying how commas are used in addresses. They are learning how to write addresses in letters, on envelopes and in sentences. In order to make practice perfect, students are also learning how to write informal letters. They studied the proper format and then put that knowledge to use. Some wrote letters home or to grandparents or a sibling.

There was also a special golden menorah with 7 branches included in the Mishkan. The students practiced their fine motor skills and made their own menorahs using sticky tape. All About the Farm
This week in STEAM students learned all about the farm! From the animals that live on the farm to the fresh fruits and vegetables that grow there. The students “milked” the classroom's fake cow Bessie, gathered and matched eggs, and conducted an experiment to find out what happens to corn kernels that are submerged in water.
