AFP Chicago Board Nominations & Applications DEADLINE

Board applications and nominations

Nomination DEADLINE:

July 31, 2024

Application DEADLINE:

August 30, 2024

Who are we looking for? AFP Chicago seeks Directors who are committed to the non-profit sector and to advancing philanthropy in the organizations and communities they represent. Directors are committed to ethical practice, donor rights, and other tenets of AFP Global, and are strongly committed to embracing the diversity of the Chicagoland community.

We seek nominees who:

  • Are active in AFP Chicago (or other chapters) and agree to maintain an active AFP membership during service on the Board of Directors;
  • Have strong leadership and service orientation, interests and experiences;
  • Serve a cross-section of Chicago’s diverse communities; and
  • Represent diversity of professional focus, age, race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and geography.

What are the responsibilities for serving on the Board of Directors? Board members represent the development profession in the greater Chicagoland philanthropy community and provide strategic direction and leadership for the Chapter. We work closely to creatively develop solutions to support the Chapter’s mission. You will find a full listing of the qualifications and expectations of membership here.

Submit a Nomination or Application TODAY

AFP Chicago’s Committee on Directorship will review all nominations, and the Chapter will present a final slate for election by AFP members. Before nominating someone other than yourself, we ask that you seek that person’s agreement to be nominated.

Contact Chair, Committee on Directorship, Ann Grant or AFP Chicago Director of Association Management, John Augustyniak if you have questions.

2024 Fundamentals of Fundraising Faculty

AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course

September 6, 13 & 20, 2024

9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course provides new fundraisers—those with up to four years of professional experience—with an intensive introduction into the building blocks of effective practice.

To design this 16-hour course, experienced fundraising professionals evolved AFP’s introductory programs to address the real-world needs and challenges non-profit organizations face every day.

This intensive program will provide an overview of skills, techniques, and program components for individuals with 0-4 years of fundraising experience or a great “back to the basics” for veteran fundraisers.

The course is organized into seven modules:

  • Overview of Fundraising
  • Developing an Integrated Fundraising Program
  • Marketing for Ongoing Success
  • Building & Sustaining Relationships
  • Securing the Gift
  • Volunteers – Partners in Fundraising
  • Management & Accountability

Pay it Forward - Join the Peer Mentoring Committee

By: Anastasia Schriber, CFRE

Associate Director, Major Gifts - Humanities

The University of Chicago

Why did you choose a career in fundraising? For many of us, it is a career we fell into, with no concrete college courses to explain the ins and outs of the profession.

Whether officially or unofficially, you most likely have had a mentor help you navigate your career, providing you feedback that has shaped you into who you are today. We are an industry of mentors and proteges, and the human connections we create are important in navigating our careers in a world that doesn’t always understand our profession.

Anastasia Schriber

AFP Chicago’s Peer Mentoring Committee works behind the scenes to help make official mentor/protege connections and create an ecosystem of fundraisers that support one another.

I joined the committee in the summer of 2023 as an opportunity to give back to AFP Chicago and the welcoming community of fundraisers and support an area of professional development that means so much to me and my career. Over the last year as a committee member, I have found confidence in my own career and knowledge of the industry while also participating in the joy of watching relationships bloom between mentors and proteges.
