Hydrant Flushing Begins April 22

The Lindenhurst Public Works Department will conduct the spring water main/ hydrant flushing program beginning Monday, April 22, through Friday, May 3rd, between 8:00 am and 2:30 pm. Hydrant flushing is completed twice a year to help clean the water pipes by removing sediments and also ensures that the hydrants operate effectively. During this time, customers may notice episodes of decreased water pressure or discoloration of their water; this is expected and temporary and should subside once flushing is complete.

For the complete list of hydrants and crew locations, please visit the Village website at www.lindenhurstil.org/hydrantflushing2024. Please call Village Hall at 847-356-8252 with any questions or concerns about the 2024 Hydrant Flushing program.

Village Hosts Student Government Day

On April 10, the Village of Lindenhurst played host to students from Lakes Community High School for its inaugural Student Government Day! The students had the opportunity to tour the wastewater treatment facility with the Public Works Department and gain insights into the operations of the Lindenhurst Police Department through a station tour. The students ended their morning with Village administration and participated in a mock Village Board Meeting. Student Government Day was a great opportunity to engage with our local students and teach them more about local government!

Sustainability Tips for the Spring Season

Looking to declutter sustainably during your spring cleaning? Check out these eco-friendly tips to make your cleanup more planet-friendly:

  • Textiles: Instead of tossing out clothing and textiles, consider donating new, gently used, or worn items at your local Village Hall collection boxes.
  • Large Items: Do you have bulky household items like couches or mattresses? Arrange a bulk item pick-up with Groot for a greener disposal method. Residents typically get one free bulk item pick-up per week alongside their regular garbage collection.
  • Shoes: Give your old kicks a new life by dropping off new, gently used, or worn shoes at Village Hall through the Reuse-a-Shoe Program.
  • Electronics: Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) 's electronic recycling program allows you to recycle outdated gadgets and electronics. Visit the SWALCO website at https://www.swalco.org/159/Electronics-Recycling for details on drop-off locations and program requirements.
  • Household Chemical Waste (HCW): Safely dispose of paint, motor oil, batteries, and other hazardous household products by scheduling an appointment with SWALCO. Remember, appointments are necessary for dropping off HCW items. Visit SWALCO's website at https://www.swalco.org/165/Household-Chemical-Waste-HCW to schedule and learn more about the program.

These simple steps can help you clear out clutter while minimizing your environmental footprint.
