St. Peter Weekly News!

Principal's Message:

Dear St. Peter Family,

As we are all very aware, COVID impacted our children and their education in many ways. Some of the effects on education are obvious and easy to see, while some reveal themselves a little at a time. The faculty and I have noticed that one skill we really need to help students develop is personal responsibility. We are working hard to help students be responsible for school work, their behavior all around the school, homework and writing what they need in planners, and picking up after themselves, especially in the cafeteria. Being a member of a school community teaches children so much about being a member of a larger community outside of school. Even as kindergartners, we believe there are so many things our students can do to gain self-help skills and organizational skills that will help them their whole lives through. As we continue to stress personal responsibility here at school, we have noticed so much strong support coming from home too! I think I am most guilty of over-helping my children. It's hard not to, as we want the best for our children, we want them to be ready for school, and we want them to succeed! But...we don't want them to be dependent on us to do all and fix all, even though that's often what we want to do. Working together with our families, one of our many goals this year is to build solid self-reliance skills and help our students take pride in themselves and their work. As always, wishing all our families a wonderful weekend together. See you on Monday!

Faith Moment

Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Padre Pio. St. Padre Pio was born in 1887 in southern Italy. By the time he was 5 years old he practiced a life of penance and made the decision to give himself completely to God. He grew up working in the fields, and at the age of 19 joined the Capuchin Franciscan friars. His Franciscan spirituality was characterized by a life of poverty, love of nature, and charity to those in need, especially to those who were his "spiritual children." St. Padre Pio had many spiritual gifts and was a great miracle-worker! These miracles included bilocation, levitation, reading souls, and physical healing by touch. Word of his holiness spread and people both pious and curious flocked to see him, especially to have him hear their confession. He is the first priest known to have received the stigmata. Because of the unusual supernatural phenomena surrounding his life, he is considered one of the great visionaries and mystics of the Church. Padre Pio died in 1968 at the age of 81. He was canonized by Pope St. John Paul II in 2002.

"Pray, hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will always hear your prayer."

-Padre Pio
