COMPASSIONATE COMMUNITY
Community Gathering: The Path Forward on our Quest for Racial Unity
On Saturday, June 19th, a diverse group of members of the Rancho Cucamonga community gathered together to celebrate diversity, learn from one another, and share a wonderful space in their commitment to working towards racial equity and unity. It was also an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate Juneteenth, which recently became a federal holiday. One of Healthy RC’s Compassionate Community partners, the Baha’i Community of Rancho Cucamonga (RC Baha’i) collaborated with Healthy RC, along with Women on the Move Network and People for Peace & Prosperity to organize this event.
Over 40 community members representing various sectors of Rancho Cucamonga were in attendance. Mayor L. Dennis Michael not only delivered the opening remarks, but also participated during the interactive group discussion and engaged directly with community members. He reaffirmed the City’s commitment to working towards the very same goals of a more equitable and united community that fully embraces diversity and inclusion. Moreover, the event informed participants on the various ways to become more actively involved in local initiatives that work on similar efforts, including joining Healthy RC’s Compassionate Community Subcommittee. It was truly an inspirational and successful event, further enhanced by the deeply moving presentations from Zaiah “Young Z” Chisholm, a 12-year-old poet from one of Healthy RC’s newest partners, Music Changing Lives, and Red Grammer, a renowned singer and songwriter. Perhaps more significantly, the powerful personal stories shared during the event have revitalized this dedicated group of community members in working together to move the needle towards racial equity and unity. To view the recorded event, visit https://vimeo.com/567070990.
Healthy RC’s Compassionate Community Subcommittee continues to lead the City’s efforts in engaging with stakeholders to identify community-centered strategies that tackle critical race-related issues, particularly in working towards a healthier and more equitable environment for all. Come join us in our regular (virtual) subcommittee meetings, typically held every 3rd Tuesday of every month at noon.

MENTAL HEALTH
Healthy RC presents the Healthy Mind and Body Resource Guide
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the Healthy RC Mental Health Subcommittee created a virtual series on Healthy Mind and Body during the month of May to respond to the urgent need for tailored resources and support for families facing overwhelming stress.

Residents came together to listen and discuss with presenter Raymond Martinez, Holistic Health and Fitness Coach from Awareness Training, who gave health and wellness strategies on Stress and Emotional Eating, as well as Managing Diet and Lifestyle. His presentations focused on self-awareness, reflective journaling, and creating behavioral changes around food consumption and sleep that optimize your energy and create a sustainable framework for your lifestyle. Jared Valdez, a PhD candidate from Wholistic Health Collaborative, also presented for the Sleep and Mindfulness workshop and provided recommendations for improving sleep hygiene for optimal health.

One attendee shared, “Thank you so much. The resources at tonight’s event were really helpful, especially hearing others who have some of the same issues and being able to share in such a short amount of time.”

For those who missed the series, you can tune in and watch them or view the presentation using the Healthy Mind and Body Resource Guide, which offers cooking recipes, book recommendations, and guided meditations, so you can put all the skills into practice!
