Almighty and most merciful God, we come to you with heavy hearts and troubled minds after (the recent) mass shootings ... We bring before you all the men, women and children who were innocent victims of these senseless and malicious men who embraced evil ... We lift all families who are facing ordeal and turmoil, and we place them into your loving arms.

Greetings, South Church. My apologies that I am joining you today online, and I am unable to lead worship in person. I am home today because I tested positive for COVID on Monday and by Wednesday, had developed pneumonia on top of it.
I am home recuperating, which is going to take a little while. I am grateful for the care of the session and worship team, who have encouraged me to take the time I need to fully recover.
So today, others will lead worship and someone else will read the words I wrote for today’s reflection.
For at least this coming week, I will not be in the church office, but I will maintain communication with Robin, elders and deacons. Should you have pastoral needs during this time, please reach out to any of them.
I urge each of you to continue taking COVID precautions very seriously. Case numbers are rising rapidly, with little response from any level of government to protect public health. We are in another surge, like it or not, and this variant is extremely contagious. I am a healthy person without serious underlying conditions and yet, I have been seriously sick this past week. I am acutely aware that I am privileged to have access to health care, a doctor who took me seriously and the right medications that have provided healing for me.
I am deeply grateful for all that.
I pray today that my circumstances will be a cautionary tale for any who are weary of mask wearing. I pray for the 6 million people worldwide who have suffered and died from COVID and for their loved ones left to carry on; and I pray for an end to this pandemic, which has impacted the world in so very many ways.
In peace, Margery
