Beautiful soul photo

Dear Rondout Families, Friends and Faculty,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the sad news that Mr. Bryan Albro passed away earlier this week. Mr. Albro had been a part of the Rondout Staff for 10 years. “Mr. Bryan” served in a number of roles during his time at Rondout. As a retired administrator, he was able to work part-time and served in several building leadership roles including assistant principal and facilities manager. He made many significant contributions to Rondout over the years such as playing a key role in the development of our outdoor green spaces, supporting the science program, managing our facilities and assisting during COVID.  Mr. Albro had survived his first battle with cancer and enjoyed his time after winning that battle. Unfortunately, he was not successful in his latest battle with cancer. His final days were in hospice surrounded by his beloved family. He had been working on a very limited schedule for part of the last school year and was unable to return this year.

Mr. Albro loved the Rondout community and some of you may remember seeing him over the years at various Rondout functions such as concerts, graduations, winter fests and the pancake breakfasts. His legacy will continue at Rondout, and he will be missed by those who knew him. Many of you never really had a chance to know him as a result of the COVID years but his impact can be found throughout the building. He could fix anything and also worked with Mr. Rosen and Mrs. Parkerson on the Robotics programs (Sea Perch and MATE).

On March 12, 2023, Mr. Albro’s family will be hosting a special tribute from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Details on location have not been made available yet. The family has requested that should you wish to make a donation they may be sent to the V Foundation for cancer research (www.v.org) or another charity of your choice. Cards or notes for the family may also be dropped off at Rondout.

Ms. Grossman and Mrs. Shabelman will be available if there are any students who might need to check in. Due to COVID and Mr. Albro’s evening schedule these past few years, many of our students did not have the opportunity to get to know him. Some of our Upper School students will remember him so please let us know if any of them would like to talk with one of us.

Mr. Bryan was a genuinely kind, caring and dedicated educator who we were blessed to call one of our own here at Rondout. He will be missed and we send our condolences to his wife and family who were the center of his world.  We are thankful for having known him and for the many ways he touched our lives.

Until next time... Take care...

Dr. Jenny Wojcik

Superintendent

Special Seniors Day Returns to Rondout!

Mark your calendars for Friday, April 28th!

For one day each spring, the population at Rondout doubles. That day, we open the doors and welcome special guests for Special Seniors Day, an event that recognizes and celebrates the special relationships and interactions between generations, and the desire for multigenerational interaction as part of our children’s education. The goal of the program is to give students a chance to bond with their special guest at school.

The event is a collaboration between the PTSA and teachers, school administration, and the community. Proud grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents and family friends have flown in from as far away as Los Angeles. Parents play a critical role in Special Senior’s Day (see below).  Because of this, parents are encouraged to find someone other than themselves, but if they want to be special guests, that’s OK.

RSVP Early!

We want to personalize this event as much as possible!  To do that, we need to capture the names of each Special Guest visiting Rondout.  There are 2 ways you can RSVP:

  • Electronically, through an e-invitation - Invitations were emailed to Rondout families on Friday, February 17th. In case the invite went to your spam, here is the URL: https://www.punchbowl.com/parties/7232fd1b275fed322817
  • Paper RSVP, via Backpack Mail - Fill out the RSVP form attached to the Falcon Flyer and send it to school in your child’s backpack.

Parents/Volunteers Needed!

This is a shout out to all Rondout parents, nannies and friends who could spare an hour of their day on Friday, April 28th.  We need help in all areas/aspects of this event. There is something for everyone to contribute on Special Seniors Day. Volunteer now by clicking below.
