Academic and/or Professional Experience: 1st year PhD Student at University of California, Irvine

HBCU Attended and Degree: I graduated from Hampton University with a BS in Chemical Engineering.

Why did you consider going to an HBCU/ teaching at an HBCU? I choose to attend Hampton University because it offered the academic and financial resources that I needed to be successful. I felt it was where a student like myself belonged. I wanted to help make a difference by conducting research on treating musculoskeletal disease by using 3D printed PEEK implants. I majored in chemical engineering and hope to earn a PhD by making more advances in treating health with innovative devices.

Any Extracurricular or Volunteer Activities: I competed on Hampton’s cross country and track teams for 4 years. I’ve also assisted with the National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, and Omega Chi Epsilon. One of my favorite volunteer activities was helping CSW by participating as a judge at a middle school STEM competition.

Are you a member of CSW? Yes, for 3 years.
