Greetings!
Welcome to summer in Point Reyes! The longest day of the year hasn’t quite arrived (next week marks the solstice) and I’m feeling full of pride, connection, and gratitude. As we kick off the season and as you plan for your explorations and celebrations here in the park, we invite you to join our summer events.
June is Pride Month and we are hosting a Pride in Your Park Walk on Friday, June 24 at Bear Valley to honor the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community and to show our allyship in creating a more just and equitable world. On Saturday, June 25, the Morgan Horse Ranch celebrates 52 years of history and the revitalization that is taking place, thanks to you! Come say hello to the Morgans and learn more about how they’re helping rangers welcome visitors to the park. To honor Juneteenth on Sunday, June 19, we’ve included a message below from our friends at Outdoor Afro, on how spending time in nature offers a way to reflect on the value of freedom for all. And finally, our Full Moon Member Hike is on Saturday, July 9 at Abbotts Lagoon. Not a member? Anyone can become a member for just $10 a month.

Happy Pride, Juneteenth, Father’s Day, and Summer!
Warmly,
Heather Clapp

Pride in Our Park Walk
When: Friday, June 24 @ 1pm – 3pm
Where: Bear Valley Trailhead
Join PRNSA and our NPS partner for a Pride Walk to celebrate and honor the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to equity in public lands, and to promote inclusion at our own park.

Alongside staff, volunteers, and friends, we will start at Bear Valley Trailhead and make our way to Divide Meadow (3 miles roundtrip), pausing to allow time for reflection. We will be bringing flags and other festive gear to share!
Morgan Horse Ranch Anniversary
When: Saturday, June 25 @ 10am – 3pm
Where: Morgan Horse Ranch
This summer, the Morgan Horse Ranch celebrates its 52nd anniversary and the birthdays of multiple horses! To commemorate the longevity of the Ranch, our NPS partner is throwing a free event on Saturday, June 25 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. At the celebration you'll find arts and crafts, shoeing and brushing stations, rangers, and of course, horses. Too excited to wait? Check out last year's Voices at the Seashore Article on the Ranch's history!

In 2021, thanks to your support, the Morgan Horse Fund helped begin the revitalization of the Ranch via infrastructure, herd additions, and more. Please consider making a gift today to help us care for and maintain the horses in 2022.
Juneteenth Reflections
When: Saturday, June 18 – Monday, June 20
Where: Outdoors, wherever you feel comfortable
Outdoor Afro is an Oakland-based nonprofit that works to connect Black explorers with the outdoors through education, recreation, and conservation. Between June 18 - 20, Outdoor Afro encourages you to go outside for 2.5 hours and reflect on what it means to be free. To learn more and register for this event, just click the link below.
Full Moon Member Hike
When: Saturday, July 9 @ 7:30pm – 9:00pm
Where: Abbotts Lagoon Trail
Welcome to Summer in Point Reyes, where the sun hangs high in the sky waiting to welcome the moon. NPS Update
In 2021, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland issued a memorandum establishing a DOI Law Enforcement Task Force to strengthen trust and collaboration, while moving the Nation to the next phase of community-focused law enforcement.

The Task Force is asking for your help in soliciting public participation to ensure a diversity of opinions and feedback. There are several upcoming opportunities for participation, including 12 public listening sessions and a customer satisfaction survey. The public comment period closes on August 2, 2022.
