Travel increases your chance of spreading and getting COVID-19. Limit non-essential travel and stay home to protect yourself and others from COVID-19, even if you are vaccinated. Washington state is following CDC guidance for out of state travel, which advises: 

Hybrid students can access their learning through the async activities that are offered daily from their in-person classroom teacher. We do not have the staffing flexibility to accommodate switching students’ instructional models or accessing live instruction due to travel quarantining. Follow the latest SPS FAQ for additional guidance and planning.

On March 22, King County moved into Phase 3 of the Healthy Washington Road to Recovery guidelines which allows for more activities to resume. This continues to be a county by county approach that is evaluated every 3 weeks. Even as more activities open up, we need to proceed with caution. More contagious variants continue to spread across the country. Wear a well-fitted mask, keep gatherings small, and stay outdoors when possible. Follow King County guidelines and restrictions here.

We are in Phase 1b Tiers 3 and 4 of vaccine distribution. That makes over 2 million more Washingtonians eligible for the vaccine! Stay current on vaccine information here. On April 15th, anyone over age 16 will be eligible to receive the vaccine. Find information about scheduling a vaccine appointment in King County here, under the heading: How to get vaccinated.

Spring has sprung and so has our Spring Book Fair! Shop online at https://www.thirdplacebooks.com/thornton-creeks-virtual-book-fair from April 5th-April 9th to support our school library. The library relies on fundraising to purchase new books and materials, so your support is valued!

This book fair leads up our Spring Break Read-A-Thon. Your student can participate by setting their own reading goal and completing this form by April 20^th for the chance to win a prize!

Thanks to the Room Parents and grade band volunteers who have been working on classroom picture pages. Please be sure to submit a photo of your student by this Friday, April 9! Your room parent will have a classroom-specific email to securely submit the photograph. Room Parents or teachers will be reaching out to families who haven't yet submitted their student photo. Our inspirational art teachers, Maria and Piper are working on details for an outdoor Art Walk on view during the month of May. They could use some help collecting fabric for two of the installations; donations of scrap cotton fabric (colorful is great) will be made into 2 x 24 inch strips that will be used for a student-focused project on the fence at school. No need to pre-cut the fabric, as any excess donations will be used in future art projects. A box for scrap cotton fabric donations will be set outside the school to drop off at your convenience. Thank you in advance for your help with this project. 

Talents Night 

Talents Night still could use your assistance! Are you available to answer tech questions for participants, and for the TC viewing community during the weekend of the show? Would you have time during the month of April to view videos and check for content and timing? There are several volunteer roles that still need filled in order for the show to go on! Please help out, if you are able: Talents Night volunteers sign up here ! The shows will be in May, exact dates TBD.

In light of the return to in-person education, the Special Education Committee meeting originally scheduled for April 5th will be moved to May 3rd to allow time for families and staff to reflect on the transition and equip themselves to discuss issues affecting Special Education students at Thornton Creek. In the meantime, a member of the Special Education staff has generously offered to try to answer any questions Special Education families may have. Hopefully you've seen the announcements about Thornton Creek Apparel being available! Help us fill our school with a rainbow of color this spring! A dedicated team has worked to offer t-shirts and sweatshirts at cost to acknowledge this year of unique learning. Apparel orders can be made here. Apparel orders will close April 11. Expect to receive any apparel you order in mid-May.  

We would like all students to receive their choice of a Thornton Creek t-shirt or sweatshirt. To make this possible scholarships are available and if that is helpful for your family you can submit your scholarship order via this form.  Contact Jeanette Fiess with questions.
