Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Member and Friends of the Ark and Dove Community,

There are three kinds of giving:
grudge giving,
duty giving,
and thanksgiving.

Grudge giving says, “I have to”;
duty giving says, “I ought to”;
thanksgiving says, “I want to”

The First comes from constraint.
The second from a sense of obligation,
The third from a full heart.

Nothing much is conveyed in grudge giving since
The gift without the giver is bare.

Something more happens in duty giving ,
But there is no song in it

Thanksgiving is an open gate into
the love of God.

These words come from a book that Robert Rodenmayer wrote in 1960 called, Thanks Be to God.

The Thanksgiving Holiday always comes In that liminal time between stewardship season and the day the Session brings the Ministry plans for the new year to the Annual meeting of the congregation in January. I say liminal because we never know in November where we will land in January. The COVID pandemic has clearly created boundaries. We do not know yet how the church, the whole church, the worldwide church in its many manifestations will come out of this massive change. Clearly we stand on the threshold to something new. Neither does Ark and Dove know what 2022 holds. I do give thanks for this congregation which has accomplished so much new ministry over the past 20 months. The love of God has been evident in the way you have held each other up.
As of this morning we have received pledges from 54 of the 160 or so households of Ark and Dove toward our Harvesting Generosity effort.
This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent and we will light the first of four candle on the Advent Wreath. Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical church year. You may want to set up your own wreath at home, especially if you are worshipping exclusively on Livestream.

Peace of Christ,
Tim
Verse and Prayer
The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: “The Lord is our righteousness.”
-Jeremiah 33:14-16
Holy One source of blessings, as we move from the national holiday of Thanksgiving to the beginning of the church new year in Advent help us to come with grateful hearts for your expansive grace and the wideness of your mercies. May giving Tuesday be just as important to us as Black Friday. As we feast our way toward the celebration of the birth of your Son, may we be generous in our concern for the many people in the world who hunger not just for their daily meal but for fairness and justice on this globe. As we light the Advent Candles each Sunday, may our hearts grow bright with anticipation. Jesus, the Light of The World is coming again in peace. This is our practice; to welcome the new life that is born again and again in Christ Jesus. Amen
This Sunday marks our first week of Advent. At both the 9:00 and 10:30 services, you will get the pleasure of hearing Laura Doughty on flute, and I will introduce you to a new Advent response by The Many called “Waiting for You”. The choir will sing a stunning version of “O Come O Come Emmanuel” at the 10:30 service as well. I am wishing you a restful, joyous Thanksgiving. I am thankful for all of you.

Stewardship
Dear Members and Friends of Ark and Dove,

Greetings from the Stewardship Team. Two weeks ago was Dedication Sunday, when we brought our pledges of financial support for our church for the next year to the communion table. We are happy to report that so far we have received 54 pledges either in person, by mail, or email. As we witness this great harvest of generosity coming to fruition we are filled with gratitude and hope for the future. Our pledges are promises of financial support throughout the coming year and they are an important tool in allowing the Session at Ark and Dove to properly plan for all the mission and ministry activities that we can offer in 2022. If you have not yet submitted your pledge, there is still time to do so! We are still accepting pledges via mail, email, and during the offering at in-person services. The Stewardship Team would like to thank you all for your continued prayers, support, and generosity.

Anne Arundel Connecting Together

Celebrate with ACT on December 1st: "Turnaround Thursday" comes to Anne Arundel County

Anne Arundel Connecting Together, ACT, is bringing the "Turnaround Movement" to the county. The Turnaround Movement, created and pioneered with great success in Baltimore as "Turnaround Tuesday" (www.turnaroundtuesday.org) is a low threshold process that literally turns around the lives of returning citizens, un- and underemployed people by enabling them to get and hold living-wage jobs. To date, it has placed over 1,000 people, 80% of whom stay employed for the long term. But more than just jobs, TAT means brokenness healed and hope restored.

ACT has forged a partnership with "Turnaround Tuesday" in Baltimore, Maryland Reentry Resource Center and Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center and has negotiated with the County for $1.3 million to kick off "Turnaround Thursday" in Annapolis. County Executive Pittman and ACT will jointly announce the approval of this proposal on December 1 at Asbury UMC, 87 West Street in Annapolis beginning at 6:00 pm. Join ACT and its partners in celebrating this important victory -- either in person or on Zoom. Registration is required.

In-person registration via your congregation/organization or Leo Penta, [email protected]

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Through this partnership we share some of our blessings and provide Christmas gifts to children in our community. As in previous years, Ark & Dove participants will sign up to purchase gifts for each child.
