City & MCRA Win Bronze Telly Award
The City of Margate has won its first Bronze Telly Award for the It’s Margate Delish social video series under the food and beverage category. Spearheaded by the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency (MCRA) and supported by the City of Margate, the video series was created in 2021 to highlight the diverse culinary treats offered in Margate, especially in the redevelopment district.

Margate Fire Department Team Receives Top Honors
Congratulations to the Margate Fire Department team for being selected for several prestigious honors. The Fire Chiefs’ Association of Broward County has selected Margate Fire Department Division Chief Luis Villar as the Paramedic Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for his years of service to Broward County and Margate residents. Fire Captain Oscar Rodriguez will be honored with the Educator of the Year Award for his countywide Fire and EMS training service. In honor of EMS Week, Lt. Marcos Gonzalez will receive the EMS Paramedic of the Year Award selected by North Hospital District and Florida Medical Center. The awards will be presented at the upcoming association’s First There First Care Conference to be held June 13-17, 2022.
Temporary Conversion to Free Chlorine on August 2-22
To maintain high water quality in the City’s water distribution system, the City of Margate Water Treatment Plant will change its treatment process temporarily to increase the level of free chlorine disinfection from August 2 through August 22, 2022. This proactive measure prevents bacterial growth in the water mains and keeps the water safe for potable uses. Young Residents Turn Backyards into Native Habitats
Two young Margate residents, Arianna Rosario and Ethan Lawrie (above), students of South Plantation High School, have worked very hard to turn their backyards into sustainable gardens that help wildlife. The students have transformed their gardens into friendly habitats for native and migratory wildlife while conserving water and minimizing the use of fertilizers and pesticides. Their homes are now NatureScape certified by the National Wildlife Federation and Broward County’s Community Resilience Department.
