Dear Families,
Final School Days Will include Liturgy, Yearbooks, and Farewell Gifts
The end of the school year is almost here, with Thursday, June 16, being our final day! On this last day, we annually hold an end-of-year liturgy, followed by an all-school picnic. We are going to have a picnic this year with a special surprise of a taco truck, ready to take your orders between 11:30am-1:00pm. Please see the insert in your red envelope today for more details.
For the end-of-year liturgy next Thursday morning, we will come together in church and announce surprise recipients of student awards. We will also say goodbye to departing students and families as well as teachers, staff, and Fr. Ben. All parents are welcome to join us during our morning liturgy.
What we need ALL parents to do on this last day of the school year is to be aware school dismisses right after the liturgy! Your children will be bringing home their yearbooks (if you ordered them) and all their school supplies. Clear space in your vehicles! Then head out to your favorite picnic spot on the green lawn or if the weather is not great, we will open up the Parish Hall!
By the way, the second-to-the-last-day - Wednesday the 15th - is also a noon dismissal day for all students. That afternoon, our hard-working teachers and staff will be treated to a lunch and hold their farewell party for the departing teachers.
If you would like to send your own "best wishes" to the departing teachers, you may drop off cards to the school office or directly email them. If you have any end-of-year gifts for your children's teachers and other faculty members, you may drop off them at the office too. Since the final days of school are very hectic, it's suggested you do this by no later than Tuesday the 14th. You can also find their Charger Cards wish list HERE.

Log in those volunteer hours
Don’t forget to log in your 40 hours of volunteering. We still have many families that have not recorded their hours. Please make sure you log in at least 40 volunteer hours HERE by June 16.
For those families who will not be able to log in at least 40 hours of volunteering, the fee for unworked hours this year is $21.00. So, for example, if one family recorded 0 volunteer hours, the school expects them to pay $840 by June. Whereas, if someone logged in 20 hours, the expectation is to pay $420.
Please go HERE if you will need to pay a fee in lieu of fulfilling your volunteer hour commitment. We would appreciate the fee being paid before the end of the school year on June 16th.
Annual Fund, Auction, and Charger Cards
Finally, besides your yearly commitment to give volunteer hours, school families also commit to supporting the Annual Fund, the Auction, and Charger Cards.
· If you pledged to the Annual Fund, but haven't gotten around to sending in your check or credit card donation, please give HERE now. Please contact Amanda Adkins if you have questions.
· All families completed their Nov-20 and/or Apr-9 Auction procurements already, but for returning families, we will soon give you information for procuring/donating your Februrary-2023 Auction donation (for the 22-23 school year) in the fall.
Charger Cards is considered fulfilled if you have either chosen to "opt out" and pay the $250 fee or if you bring in a minimum of $125 in rebates/profit from your yearlong Charger Card purchases. To pay the fee, please submit a check or cash (no credit cards accepted for this fee) to "St. Louise Charger Cards." If you didn't opt out and will be bringing in at least $125 in rebates/profit, please make sure you take advantage of these final weeks to purchase as many Charger Cards as needed. Please contact Tiffany and Erica in the Charger Cards office if you need help in determining how far you are away from fulfilling your commitment.
Returning Students Have Summer Learning in June/July/August
As you plan for all the fun adventures and exciting family trips your children will be having over the summer, please keep in mind that summer is also an excellent opportunity to keep inquisitive minds active and engaged! Research shows that summer learning loss equals at least one month of instruction. Knowing this causes parents and teachers to think about how to best keep academic skills sharp over the summer while also using the time to improve upon or master some lagging academic skills.
St. Louise Parish School RECOMMENDS certain academic work be completed on a regular/daily basis over summer vacation, and in some specific grade levels and/or subject matter we REQUIRE this work over summer vacation.
Please go to our SUMMER LEARNING page and click on the various topics on the righthand column to see what your child SHOULD or MUST complete throughout June, July, and August. You will also receive information in your red envelope today. Thank you for your support!
Our School Calendar for Next Year Has Been Finalized
The school calendar for 2022-23 has been finalized, with a September 6, 2022 start date and a June 16, 2023 end date. All the school events, Masses, concerts, teacher conference days, and school holidays in between these two dates are now listed HERE.
We appreciate school families setting up their family vacation based on the school calendar.

Announcement of Auction 2023 Co-Chair
Today, I would like to announce that Amy Colby will join Laura Bonner as our 2023 Auction Co-Chair. Amy has helped our auction team tremendously this year and her Laura will make a great team in making our 2023 auction a huge success. If you see Amy in the next few weeks, please congratulate her on her new role as a Co-Chair for our auction.

Our annual Field Day will be held on Tuesday, June 14, with the 7th graders helping to run outdoor games in which the grade K-5 students participate.
Mr. Evans oversees the 7th graders, but he needs parent helpers for general supervision assistance and to work the water and first aid stations. If you can work from 9:30-2:30 on June 14, please email Mr. Evans to sign up. If you can only work a half-shift (the 9:30-12:00 grade 3-5 shift or the 12:00-2:30 grade K-2 shift), let him know, but priority for the 12 Field Day volunteer positions will first go to parents who can work the entire day.

6th Grade Camp Adventures! |
|
|
|
Sixth grade students spent four days at the Mount Rainier Institute, located right outside Mt. Rainier/ Mt. Tahoma National Park! Students used the forest as their "classroom” which helped them develop knowledge and understanding of the environment. Not only that, camp fostered a sense of community amongst students that cannot be replicated in a classroom. Lastly, we are so grateful for our chaperones, who made the camp experience safe, educational, and valuable. This was an enormous commitment on their end. Thank you Kristy Charles, Mike Pokorny, Rod Ryan, Mimi Trinh, Juan González, Sarah Ellis, Vicki Cam, Peter Newton, and Oscar Antezana!

St. Louise track had an awesome season that culminated in the Championship Meet this past weekend.
The 4th grade boys won the title, with clutch performances by Michael Miller (1600), Luis Amat Navarro (800, turbo jav, shuttle relay), Ethan Dickenson (800, turbo jav), Jethro Abueg (shuttle relay), Jolo Olayao (shuttle relay, 75, long jump), and Akean Fawcett (50, shuttle relay, softball throw). They also won 1st place in the shuttle relay.

The above does not include the incredible performances in the field events, which were highlighted by:

Raneisha 1st place in the long jump

Elena Catorcini with a gold medal in the 4th grade softball throw, which was a new school record and a new CYO record! She threw 121 feet, 9 in, beating the old record of 117 ft 3/4 in set in 2006!

A big congrats to Elena C. and Luis, two 4th graders who broke school records this year. Luis broke the 4th grade 2017 school record in the 800 (was 2:53) with his perfectly-split 2:50.85 at the Championship Meet. Elena tied the 50m record in 8.53 and obliterated the softball record (see above). Look for their names on the record boards in the gym next year.
Congrats to Varsity and Jr. Varsity pin winners this year. They achieved times that were in the top quarter to top 10% of performances, as compared to school records.

This season would not have been possible without the help of the coaches and volunteers. Thanks to Beth Kaukl, Juan Gonzalez, Julie and Bodie Sturgill, Gregg Smith, and Sara Gopsill for helping to run the practices and managing the various events for the kids. And thank you to the parents who helped out at the meets, some last minute! Your work is so appreciated. Thank you to Jenn Little for her incredible work. She kept the roster updated, ordered the shirts, communicated with CYO, and made all the labels for each meet.
Thank you to everyone for your participation! A new head coach will be needed for cross country and track next year, so please let JC Fawcett or Jenn Little know if interested.

Our 7th graders experienced the culmination of their final Science project with the launching of rockets created from 2-liter soda bottles. Each team of students designed, built, and decorated a unique rocket to fly as far as possible while carrying a raw egg. Each group learned aspects of the engineering process including making a scale drawing, budgeting for materials, and most importantly teamwork. While not all the eggs survived the flights, the memories of the exciting and fun afternoon will last for many years to come!

Dear Friends at St. Louise,
Happy Holy Trinity Sunday! There are so many ways to express the inexpressible mystery of the Trinity. One way to think of it is, The Father speaks love – Jesus is the Word of love that is spoken – and the Holy Spirit is the Word of love living in us. If we take that message seriously, then what else can we do but to walk the path of God’s love, always looking to God for direction as we face the particular challenges of our time?
With this in mind, I would like to share with you a follow-up message about the synodal process that came from Tim Hunt, the Executive Director of Planning & Mission Effectiveness at the Archdiocese of Seattle. You will recall that the word synod means to “walk with.” It is a Trinitarian process of sorts: 1. We seek to listen to the Holy Spirit by, 2. Listening to each other, and 3. The Bishops and Pope listen to that input to discern a future path. Thank you again to everyone who took time to participate. Here is what Tim Hunt (who by the way is a former student of St. Louise School) wrote:
“Thank you for your critical efforts in making our part of Pope Francis’ global Synod on Synodality a success. It is my great privilege to share that, since January, good people like yourself have hosted nearly 1,000 listening sessions and included 11,000 people across the Archdiocese of Seattle. Again, thank you for your faithful efforts and hard work.
“93% of our parishes participated in this process, but these prayerful and powerful synodal encounters also took place within our Catholic schools and universities, ministries within public universities, women religious communities, lay Catholic organizations, prisons, and at the margins through great collaboration with Catholic Community Services and countless other efforts.
“The Archdiocesan report is currently being written and will be made available to the public. That report is due to the USCCB by June 30th.”
All are invited to the Synod Closing Mass at St. James Cathedral, Saturday, June 18 at 5:30PM (Multi-Cultural Corpus Christi Mass and Procession)
May the God who is over us, who is beside us, and who lives in us, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, guide us in all our thoughts, words and actions!
