Recently, there was an article in the News&Observer that focused on the United Methodist Church. One of the articles, "Un-United Methodists: Church splinters between its conservative and gay-affirming sides," by Kayla Guo is an in-depth article about a long debate in the United Methodist Church. While the author does cover the details well, the headline can be a bit misleading.

The United Methodist Church is not splintering or splitting right now. There are some individual churches that are choosing to leave and they are using a process that has been in our Book of Discipline for many years. The Book of Discipline has not been changed and our clergy will continue to follow it as part of their ordination vows..

It is important for us, here at NRUMC, to understand that we continue to be part of the United Methodist Church because we believe that together, we can all make more of a difference. Part of life together has always been to accept and love people while we talk through our differences. We invite you to be in prayer for our church and all United Methodists.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to Pastor Duke or Pastor Alex, please email them or give them a call at 919-847-1536.

In our common humanity we all long for justice, we are all on a spiritual journey, we all hunger for relationships, and we all delight in beauty. To quote Wright, "this book isn't Anglican, Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox, but simply Christian."

Reynosa, Mexico Trip

November 6-12

Come build houses and relationships in Reynosa, Mexico!

Join the group from NRUMC as we travel to Reynosa, Mexico to build houses with people of the city and join in other ministries in the area. The houses are concrete and cinder block, so you don't need any woodworking skills.

No construction skills at all? No problem! Don't speak Spanish? No problem! The most important thing we build in Reynosa is relationships, so an open and loving heart is the only thing necessary (along with your passport). Trip cost is $800. If you're interested in going, or if you have questions, please contact Jay Mackie at jgmjrvet@aol.com by September 4.

The UWF collected 3856 diapers, 132 pads, and 1204 baby wipes that were delivered in two trips the the NC Diaper Bank. Thank you to all who supported this outreach effort!
