Just TWO weeks to apply for the NHHF Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship — applications are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on September 23, 2022.  Please help spread the word among eligible students enrolled full time in accredited health care graduate programs! This scholarship features awards of up to $5,000 annually for 3 years, as well as individual awards of $2,000.

The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have developed a toolkit to help providers screen, intervene, and address food insecurity in children.

Asthma Resources for Providers: NHMA is excited to announce the launch of our Asthma pages on HispanicHealth.info! More than 1 in 10 Americans have had asthma at some point of their lives, leading to over 2 million trips to the emergency room every year. Latino children have a 40% higher risk of dying from asthma compared to non-Hispanic white children.

Oxiris Barbot, MD, Former NYC Health Commissioner, Named President and CEO of United Hospital Fund: Last month, UHF announced the appointment of Oxiris Barbot, MD, as its president and CEO, effective

Legislative Update


Dear Colleagues,


President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law; NHMA’s President and CEO will attend the Signing Ceremony next week at the White House. The Inflation Reduction Act will protect Medicare recipients from catastrophic drug costs by phasing in a cap for out-of-pocket costs and establishing a $35 cap for a month’s supply of insulin. Medicare will be able to negotiate prices for certain high-cost drugs for the first time ever. The law also extends health insurance premium subsidies for those who obtain insurance in the ACA Marketplace...

This month's NHMA Trailblazer is Board Member Diana Ramos, MD, MPH, FACOG, who was recently sworn in by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve as California Surgeon General! Dr. Ramos will be one of only four State Surgeons General and is the first Hispanic person to serve as California's Surgeon General. Congratulations, Dr. Ramos!
