A Beautiful Pupdate
This happy tail is what SSPA's work is all about!

Mia was dumped at the shelter, tied to a post.

The underweight girl went to foster, but her first foster returned her, feeling Mia's medical needs were beyond their abilities.

Then, she ended up being fostered by Liz Cardenas.

"She was sent back cause she was meant for us!" Liz says.

Mia was only 34 pounds, had bald spots and intestinal issues when Liz started fostering her.

And soon, Liz realized Mia wasn't going anywhere and she'd found her forever home.

"She’s healthy, no bald patches and weighs 64 pounds now!" Liz says.

She's made Liz's life so much brighter.

"Mia definitely brought so much love to our little family it’s unreal," Liz says. "Knowing she’s been through a ton and having her adjust was an emotional journey but all so worth it! It’s crazy how much love she has to give. I’d do it all over again!"

This story again shows that fostering saves lives, along with what SSPA wishes for all of our dogs!

Thank you, Liz, for making her such a beloved part of your family!

Will You Support SSPA During BDOG?
Big Day of Giving (BDOG) - coming May 6 - is one of our region's biggest fundraisers for local nonprofits!

This Thursday, April 22, early donations open and you can start giving!

SSPA's dogs need your support! Will you show up for them?

SSPA needs to close a sizable funding gap to fill to maintain our life-saving programs for shelter dogs (behavioral, playgroups, Dog Day Out, fostering, adoption counseling and matching), so we truly need everyone’s support to keep us going through the summer - and beyond!

The dogs depend on us; we depend on you!

Create your own fundraising page supporting our dogs by following these five simple steps:
  1. Visit Sacramento Shelter Pets Alive’s BDOG profile.
  2. Click on the Fundraise button.
  3. Create or log in to your donor GivingEdge profile.
  4. Fill out and submit a simple form.
  5. Please share widely.

We can’t thank you enough for your passion for helping our region’s beloved shelter pups, who need all the help they can get!

Barry

This adorable boy is a dream dog!

He's a rock star in every way. We think he may not be able to hear but that doesn’t stop him from being all-around wonderful!

His favorite thing is to roll over for belly rubs and we think he’d be a great fit for a family with children.

Princess

This little one is finally safe in foster after living on the streets for a while.

She's very sweet and is OK with other dogs.

She's looking for a special adopter who will continue to help her build confidence and work on her fear issues. Her person will need to be patient as she takes some time to acclimate to new people and handling.

A quiet home without young children would be best for her.

Ready to open your heart and home to this girl?! Fill out an adoption application.
Eli

This boy would love nothing more than to be a family’s beloved pet!

He has those head tilts down and has a perfect white stripe down his face!

He’s come so far from the terrified, shut-down pup we first met at the shelter. With positive reinforcement and two playful, confident female dogs, he’s flourishing every day!

He’s sweet, LOVES to play with the dogs in his foster home, and becomes your shadow once you’ve gained his trust. He also enjoys long walks and hikes.

Eli is hoping to find a forever home soon with a confident female dog and a loving, supportive family who will help him continue to come out of his shell! There’s not much more rewarding than that!

Ready to adopt?! Fill out an adoption application!
Homer

This handsome dude is a volunteer favorite!

He takes a little time to warm up to people, so he’s looking for a patient and understanding family.

He could be paired with a well-matched female dog in his new home.

Once you gain his trust, he does zoomies and flops over for belly rubs!

Ready to bring him home?! Fill out an adoption application.
