RALLY MONTH IS HERE!

During the month of January, we are recruiting Host Families for the 2023-2024 school year!

The success of our Edina French Immersion program depends on having warm, welcoming host families for our amazing French Interns. Without French Interns, we could not sustain our position as a top immersion program.

To continue this momentum, it is critical we secure 60 Host Families by January 31st. With 60 Host Families, we can support 27 French Interns, meeting our ideal allocation of Interns across all schools:

Normandale French Immersion

Kindergarten: 5 interns, 1 per class

1st grade: 4 interns, 1 per class

2nd grade: 5 interns, 1 per class

3rd grade: 3 interns

4th - 5th grade: 2 interns per grade

Valley View/EHS Extended French

Valley View: 3 interns

Edina High School: 3 interns

PTO MEET AND GREET WITH DR. STANLEY

In the spirit of the New Year, the Normandale PTO is hosting a meet and greet with Edina Schools Superintendent Dr. Stanley on January 17 @ 5:00 PM. Join Dr. Stanley and Principal Holden for an update on efforts in Edina and at Normandale to connect with the District’s vision to help each and every student thrive. PTO leadership will also share plans and projects for 2023. Who knows, since we are meeting in person there may even be some post-holiday treats at this gathering!

INCOMING KINDERGARTEN PREFERENCE FORM

Current French Immersion families who have an incoming kindergarten student for the 2023-24 school year must submit the Program Preference Form in order to receive Sibling Preference for Edina residents. The Preference Form is available online and is due by 4:00pm on January 6. If you have any questions about the process, please contact the Normandale office at 952-848-4100.

STUDENT MEAL ACCOUNTS

The district has resumed sending out low balance reminders for student meal accounts. Instruction for adding funds to your students account can be found here.

MEET THE INTERN

MARTIN PERRIN - SECOND GRADE

ABOUT ME:  I come from a very rural area in the East of France, Vauvillers. It's close to the Vosges, a small mountain ridge where I like to go hiking with my family and especially my grandmother who was born and raised there ! I have a younger brother, Marc, who is 24. He studies to become a French teacher in Japan. And I have a younger sister, Laura, who is 20. Laura studies to become a math teacher (as you can see, education is very trendy in the family). My father, Christophe, was also a primary school teacher. He died when I was 7. My mother, Anne, is a GP. She is always very busy because of the lack of doctors in rural areas in France. In my free time, I love to play music. I play the piano, the ukulele and the guitar. I also like to run and cycle. I enjoy reading from time to time. I love to go to the cinema or to modern art galleries. I am also a big board game nerd. I am actually planning to come with a few games of my own. I like to cook too. And I always try to keep some time to volunteer and spend time in various charities or community groups. In this regard, I have a special interest in social and environmental issues.

IN THE US:  During my stay in the US, I am dreaming of discovering New York and San Francisco. I would like to do a lot of hiking, in a national parks or elsewhere. If possible, I would like to go visit Canada, to go to Toronto. I also would like to try to do a Roadtrip, I don't know where to yet.

MY FAVORITE FOOD:  I am happy with any type of food and I always enjoy to discover a new dish ! I am a vegetarian, but I am flexible. I eat meat sometimes (if the food is already made, I prefer to eat, and I like meat. I just don't want to consume it for environmental reasons). I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. My favorite dish is my grandmother's vegetable soup but unfortunately, the recipe is secret. I just know that there are leeks, carrots, peas and oat flakes in it. Also, I prefer savory foods. I am not big fan of sugary pastries.

I AM EXCITED ABOUT:  I can't wait to come and to meet you all, discover your way of living, of thinking, of dealing with education. I am especially happy to have the opportunity to practice my English skills, but I am also very keen to help with french learning. I am keen to share all the things I know about french and France... I am sure that this year is going to be wonderful!
