More Early Season News

Dear Karen,

It’s a pleasure to share additional information for anyone already in the Pines or planning to return soon.

PCS Tree Programs - update

Our PCS/FIPPOA partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts has been completed successfully - over 47 dead pines trees were downed, chipped and taken off the island.

The PCS Annual Tree sale remains underway. Over $32,000 have been ordered. Once a season, trees are purchased directly from wholesale nurseries and delivered to the Pines freight dock. By ordering in bulk, PCS can pass the savings on to you. You have only until April 8th to submit your orders here

Verizon FIOS

While most of the community subscribed to FIOS last year, some decided to wait until this season. The directions for initiating subscriptions and installation remain the same as last year:

Please email FireIslandFIOS@outlook.com stating that you would like to subscribe and including the following information:

  • Name of subscriber
  • FIP address
  • Phone number where you can be reached
  • Include a general time range for when you can best be reached. For example, “I prefer daytime, evening, weekdays, weekend or just about any time.” Please note that when Verizon calls, you must pick-up; they will not leave a voice message and will not leave a call back number.
  • Land line number (if you have one)

If you prefer, you may also call the Verizon FIOS national, toll-free number or go on-line.

Please note that FIOS is for voice (land line) and data (internet) only; television is not an option. Also please note that if you are already a subscriber and wish either to re-active your service or to modify your subscription, you must call the national number. The dedicated email address is for new subscribers only.

Garbage

There were too many instances of missed garbage pick-ups last year. While we have worked hard with both Brownie and the Town of Brookhaven to improve reliability, we are aware that misses may still occur.

In the event your garbage is not picked up on the designated day, please contact Brownie directly at Carting@BrownieNY.com and cc 311@fippoa.org. It is important that you include FIPPOA in the email so that we can determine, and if necessary document, the frequency of missed pick-ups.

Placing household and yard refuse on Fire Island Boulevard is illegal!

I realize this is a strong wording, but it is a perennial problem and I implore your cooperation and compliance. Please do not place any waste or bulk items, including yard waste, debris, mattresses, and discarded furniture, anywhere on the Boulevard or Burma Road.   This includes dumpsters that may be sitting on the roadway. Those dumpsters are rented by contractors and homeowners and are for their exclusive use.

It is easy enough to rid yourself of yard waste and bulk items in the proper fashion. Bulk household and yard debris items are picked up by our waste management contactor on Wednesdays, and we suggest you provide them advance notice by emailing Carting@BrownieNY.com. Yard waste must be placed in sturdy plastic bags also for Wednesday pick-up.

As in year’s past, we plan to hold community-wide clean-up days in both the Spring and Fall. FIPPOA will rent dumpsters for your use. Specifics on this year’s spring event will be sent in one of my upcoming newsletters.

Membership Reminder and Wagon Stickers

Wagon stickers will be mailed out soon. If you haven’t renewed your FIPPOA membership for 2022 or you would like to become a FIPPOA member and help support the Pines community, click here. All members of the community are eligible to join, and all categories of membership include a wagon sticker.

The Pines Foundation Mobility Cart Program

Last year we informed you that FIPPOA’s insurance company requires every passenger to complete an Indemnity Form. With the start of the new season, all riders must submit a signed form before taking your first ride. We will keep all completed forms on file, so each passenger needs to sign the form only once per calendar year.

Below are the ways you can obtain and submit an indemnity form:

  1. Fill out and submit the digital form here.
  2. Click here to print out the form and give to any driver or drop in the "Local Mail Groups" mailbox in the post office lobby.
  3. You can get a form from a Mobility Cart driver and give them the completed form back.
  4. You can get a form at the post office, fill out the form and place it in the mailbox labeled "Local Mail Groups."

Thank you for your cooperation with this new requirement and thank you to all of our volunteer drivers for helping us to collect and organize the forms.

Post Office

Official opening is expected on Tuesday, May 3rd.

Volunteerism

One of the questions that people frequently ask me is how they can volunteer their time and passion back to the Pines. Click here to sign up with the FIPPOA Volunteer Program
