Upperclassman Lead Orientation
ICAPS, Activities, Classes, & Tours

Twenty five of our amazing juniors recently had the opportunity to lead orientation for the incoming freshman and current sophomore class. Each led different discussions on course sequencing for high school classes, the A+ program, dual credit courses, career and technical offerings at MATC, different activities they could choose to participate in, and a tour of the high school for the incoming class.
During each rotation, underclassmen were able to ask questions on specific courses and receive assistance filling out their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP). ICAPs were recently restructured in the HHS counseling office to be a Google document that students, families, and the counseling staff could have constant access to, allowing them to be reviewed and changed as often as needed. After each ICAP is submitted to the counseling office, Mr. Boyer and Mrs. Austene spend 5-10 minutes with each student to review their plan and answer any questions they may still have. With the help of student leadership, this process has gone from being a stressful 3 week period per grade level to a streamlined process that takes about a week to complete for each grade level. Thank you again to our student leaders!

Coach Koeneke Announces Retirement
46 Years Leading the Hallsville Indians Baseball

Legendary Hallsville High School baseball coach Barry Koeneke, or “Coach K” to his players, announced on Friday, April 9, he is retiring from coaching after spending 46 years leading the Hallsville Indians Baseball team.

“I have loved being a part of this program for the past 46 years,” said Coach Koeneke. “I have three big loves. Time spent coaching. Helping young men grow up. And the Hallsville Community. Those loves won’t go away when I retire.”

“Coach Koeneke has touched the lives of over a thousand players during his distinguished career. Greatness is not only measured by wins and losses on the field but also the life lessons he has provided to so many young men,” says Activities Director Brad Blakemore. “Coach ‘K’ teaches a love for the game of baseball and his legacy will continue to be passed down to future generations within the Hallsville community.” The district will begin the search for our next head baseball coach soon.
