VICTORIAN COVID UPDATE

Dear ,

As all would be aware, there were changes to restrictions effective late last week. We wait in anticipation regarding further announcements later this week.

Unfortunately, last week’s announcements were light on detail, and gave little in the way of a pathway to a new normal, as we anticipate the end of Term 2 and the winter holiday season.

Below is what we understand to be the situation at present, though not all the information below can be validated via government websites or press releases.

The facts:

Metropolitan Melbourne - all students can return to face to face study effective Friday June 11th, 2021. We are awaiting advice from the Department of Education to see if camps can therefore resume. The return to camps was allowed quickly from previous lockdowns, however, we await advice.

Regional Victoria - are in a much better place with much of the community able to function relatively normally, albeit with 4sqm required in hospitality spaces.

Our Understanding:

The accommodation guidelines for regional indicate that schools are exempt from the capacity limits, as long as there is only one school at a camp at a time. In essence, this is reverting to the restrictions that were in place in the early days of the sector being allowed to operate again.

For non-school groups, including holiday camps, the Acting Premier’s media conference and subsequent media release from June 9th, gave hope that there may be a significant easing of restrictions in time for the upcoming school holidays. However, we have yet to see the details published to give the exact framework around these easings.

Below is a summary of the restrictions effective midnight Thursday June 10th.
