Message from Mayor Jack Tatooles
Laurie C. White Appointed as Village Trustee

It gives me great pleasure to announce that at the April 12th Village Board meeting, with the concurrence of the Board of Trustees, I appointed Laurie C. White as Village Trustee.  Laurie fills the unexpired trustee term of the late John Willis.  Prior to this appointment, Laurie served as Village Clerk since 2011.
New Name – Same Great Service
Inverness Fire Protection District

For the past several months, the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District (soon to be known as the Inverness Fire Protection District) has been designing a new fire district logo and signage to reflect the District’s new name. The Inverness Fire Protection District name would be displayed on the station monument sign, vehicle lettering, helmet shields, badges, and patches. I want to express my gratitude to everyone in our community who has provided financial assistance to the District to reduce these expenses.

The official name change to Inverness Fire Protection District is expected this summer.
Stormwater Maintenance Suggestions

During the past month, the Chicagoland area experienced above-average rainfall, which resulted in temporary localized flooding in our community. During the storms, Village Staff and Village contractors actively cleared out stormwater inlets and blocked culverts to reduce flooding. Unfortunately, most of the street and yard flooding was caused by residents not maintaining or clearing their culverts, and private storm drains on their property.

Residents are encouraged to keep their driveway culverts unobstructed and conduct regular maintenance on any private drain line and swales on private property. One obstructed culvert can affect several homes and cause flooding along a residential street.

We offer the following simple seasonal maintenance suggestions that will keep your culvert pipes trouble-free:

Spring:
  • Inspect culverts.
  • Remove any obvious debris such as trash, leaves, and brush, that could cause blockage.

Summer:
  • Clear and flush the inside of the culvert pipe.
  • Trim and remove brush from around the ends of the culvert pipes.
  • Re-establish grass around the pipe ends to prevent erosion.
  • Remove obvious blockages.

Fall:
  • Clear culvert pipe ends.
  • Remove obvious blockages.

Winter
  • Clear ice from the ends of the pipes if possible.
  • Inspect the culvert for any accumulated debris.

Be a Dog-gone Good Neighbor
Village ordinance requires that all dogs must be on a leash and under the control of the owner at all times when off the owner’s private property.

Those who violate the Village’s leash law may be ticketed and fined.

When walking your pet, please be sure to pick up the waste and dispose of it properly. Flushing pet waste is the best disposal method. Leaving pet waste on the ground increases public health risks by allowing harmful bacteria to drain and eventually find its way into the local water system.
No Overnight Parking
Parking on Village streets is prohibited between 1:00-6:00 AM seven days a week.

If you have overnight guests or need to leave vehicles on the street for other reasons, notify the Police Department by calling (847) 358-7766.
Mosquito Season is Fast Approaching
The sounds of summer will soon include the buzzing of mosquitoes. Although we dislike them as much as you do, the Village does not spray for mosquitoes. That job belongs to the Northwest Mosquito Abatement District, which is a separate taxing body that monitors mosquito levels throughout the suburbs. The District provides larviciding in places where mosquitoes are most likely to breed, such as ponds, catch basins, and other bodies of shallow water.

Don’t let water get stagnant.
Keep gutters clear, thoroughly empty kiddie pools and water buckets after use,
and keep birdbaths filled with fresh water.

Check out what’s growing in your yard.
Mosquitoes love overgrown trees, brush, weeds and tall grass. Keeping lawns tidy
helps keep mosquitoes out.

For information about mosquito abatement, spraying, or other related issues, call the Northwest Mosquito Abatement District at (847) 537-2306, or visit their website at www.nwmadil.com.
