March 2022
Greetings,

I cannot believe how fast time has flown. It was 2 years ago around this time that we were getting ready to go virtual because of the pandemic. At that time, it was Kay and me managing the DEI Office. Since then, our office has doubled in size with Callie and Jammy joining. We rebranded to the JEDI Office and have been working on some really meaningful projects that we hope to share with you in the next JEDI Newsletter once we share it with the JEDI Council.

Last week, I had the opportunity to celebrate the honor of being named on the COLOR inaugural Power 50 Chief Diversity Officers list along with Dr. Carla Carten and Dr. Stephanie Pinder-Amaker of MGB. COLOR Magazine, in their feature about me, includes some information I will be sharing JEDI work progress with our Board of Trustees next week. In mid-March, I will be traveling to San Diego to co-present the Advancing Anti-Racism Strategy pre-conference at NADOHE and participating in the townhall as a member of the task force that produced the recommendation.

With the excitement of the recognition, NADOHE, and upcoming Board presentation, I also feel another way that is hard to describe. I have not really been keeping up on the news of the war in Ukraine and I am wondering if it may be because of my own identity as a refugee. When I think about war, I think about the impact of war on individuals, families, and communities...and generations of people as they go through generational trauma. I also think about veterans who may be retraumatized. My thoughts are with all of those who have been impacted by the violence of war.

Yesterday, President Paula Milone-Nuzzo made a statement about the war in Ukraine that I wanted to reshare in case you missed it. MGB DE&I is hosting sessions as well as sharing resources copied and pasted below:

From the Director of JEDI Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Faculty Support

This past month I've been working on some deeper collaborations within the IHP, revising PPP, prioritizing space for reflection on Curriculum, Pedagogy and Faculty Support at the IHP, advancing various projects that are in the works, and working on different workshops and curricula across the IHP.
The Library and I have worked to develop this Power, Privilege and Positionality (PPP) libguide, that compiles all the resources, panels and reflections from prior PPP Orientations. The goal is for members of the IHP community to be able to continue revisiting the resources and lessons from these sessions. Check it out and let us know what you think! https://libguides.massgeneral.org/c.php?g=1056036&p=8884729

Money-Saving Tips

If you have any money-saving tips to share with the IHP community, please send them our way at jedi@mghihp.edu!

Natalie Lewis in SON shared that she uses Fetch Rewards where youu can use to scan your receipts and can accumulate points to get free gift cards to Amazon, stores, restaurants, etc. There are other apps out there like Ibotta for cash back on receipt purchases.

Kim uses mrrebates, but there are other companies like Rakuten where you get a rebate back on a percentage of the purchase price. These rebates can add up and you receive cashback funds via check or PayPal. Mrrebates also has coupon codes you can use for these stores. Retailmenot is a site where you can search for coupon codes you can use for shopping both online and in-store.

There are some deals blogs where they share coupons and advice on purchasing based on various weekly sales circulars (household goods and others), such as Free Stuff Finder. For technology, there's sites like Slick Deals and Bens Bargains.
