Mayor Murphy Presents State of the City Address
On March 15, Mayor Murphy presented his State of the City Address as part of Valpo Chamber's Annual Meeting. Each year, mayors across the nation present a State of the City speech as a reflection of their priorities and accomplishments. Mayor Murphy highlighted the strength of our city working together through the pandemic and accomplishments, including supporting local businesses, downtown development projects, establishing the Mayor's Youth Council, investing in public safety equipment and more. Valpo for All Generations
In an initiative called “Valpo for All Generations,” the City of Valparaiso and Valpo Parks have introduced a bold plan to expand and upgrade parks and programming that will serve all ages for generations to come. The four priorities of Valpo for All Generations include: 1) Legacy Parks 2) Adult Center for Enrichment 3) Valparaiso Skate Park and 4) Community Sports and Recreation Complex. Mayor Murphy recently announced that the City has purchased 248 acres east of 49 for a community sports and recreation complex to include sports fields, walking paths with wooded trails, shelters, concessions and perhaps an indoor facility. The City of Valparaiso and Valpo Parks are looking forward to moving Valpo for All Generations forward by engaging the community to gather further ideas, form partnerships, gather volunteers and raise funds to elevate each project. Learn more.
2022 Neighborhood Grant Awards
The City of Valparaiso has awarded 20 new grants in the 2022 Neighborhood Improvement Grant program, providing $205,000 in funds to support neighborhood unity and community improvements. Coupled with the matching investments by the neighborhoods themselves, this grant cycle will result in more than $275,000 in positive impact for the community. The projects funded this year include tree plantings, common area upgrades that give neighbors a fresh space to gather and enhancements to neighborhood parks, among other beneficial plans. Learn more.
Valpo's New Greyhound Bus Stop
The City of Valparaiso has an added transit option for residents, with the addition of a Greyhound stop, connecting riders to popular Indiana destinations, such as Indianapolis, Carmel, Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Bloomington and more, as well as connection to Greyhound’s network of over 1,700 destinations nationwide. The Greyhound stop is located at Valpo’s Village Station, 260 Brown St. and offers one northbound bus (departing Valparaiso at 7:05 am) and one southbound bus (departing Valparaiso at 10:55 am) daily. Learn more.
City Hall Blood Drive April 15
Mayor Murphy has announced a local Blood Drive to benefit the American Red Cross, hosted at Valparaiso City Hall on April 15. Giving blood is an important way to support local health. The Red Cross is taking appointments for the Blood Drive, which will be held 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday, April 15 at City Hall.

Home Team Valpo Spring Cleanup April 30
Spend the day outside and help your community with Home Team Valpo on Saturday, April 30! We are seeking group and individual volunteers to help homeowners with yard work and outdoor maintenance projects. Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome. Additionally, homeowners seeking help with outdoor improvement projects or yard work are invited to complete an application for assistance. Learn more and sign up on the Home Team Valpo website.
