TxDOT to Begin Construction on Highland Village Rd. On Ramp to Northbound I-35E

TxDOT is set to begin the construction of the Highland Village Road northbound on ramp to I-35E. The official start date is September 14 and the contract calls for a 71 day construction timeframe, Monday - Friday. Interruption to traffic should be minimal during construction. We will provide updates as we receive them.

Highland Village Rd. Sidewalk

Highland Village Road Sidewalk is under construction. This five-foot sidewalk on Highland Village Road connects from the Municipal Complex to the existing sidewalk at Lakeside Community Park. This sidewalk will provide much needed safe pedestrian access to the residents in this area and connect them with amenities like Lakeside Community Park, Doubletree Ranch Park and Wichita Forest. The City has a limited amount of public right-of-way along Highland Village Road. In the areas where there is a residential mailbox, the sidewalk has a modified design to account for the sidewalk alignment to remain within the existing public right-of-way. The sidewalk is designed to and upon completion will meet or exceed American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Expected completion is end of summer 2022.

Salute Our Veterans

Since 2004 the City of Highland Village and Highland Village Business Association have honored our veterans by hosting the Salute Our Veterans luncheon during the week of Veterans Day. The Salute Our Veterans luncheons have been a huge success and, as in the past, we are asking for your help to sponsor the lunches of our veterans.

The HVBA would like to take the opportunity to invite YOU to sponsor our veterans by paying for their lunch. Sponsorships begin at $40.00, which covers the cost of two veteran’s lunches. If you choose to sponsor additional veterans, the lunches are sold in increments of $20.00, allowing you to choose the amount of your donation, $80.00 for four veterans, $120.00 for six veterans, etc.

At the past luncheons over 250 veterans, representing all branches of service, from Highland Village, Lewisville, Flower Mound, and surrounding areas had their lunch paid through sponsorship funds. We invite your business or you, as an individual, to become a sponsor.

Please forward your sponsorship by October 21 to 1000 Highland Village Rd., Highland Village, TX 75077, Attn: Salute Our Veterans. If you have any questions regarding sponsorship or our Salute Our Veterans luncheon, please contact us at (972) 899-5105 or email info@highlandvillage.org.

What a great opportunity to give back to those who gave so much for our country! Please mark your calendar and plan to join us on Thursday, November 10. With your help, we will all be able to recognize and pay tribute to the veterans in our area who have served, and continue to serve, to make our country a free and safe place to live.

Honoring those that have died in the line of duty remains at the forefront of our event.

National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) theme this year is “A Lasting Legacy”.  The life you have built is worth protecting. Prepare for disasters in order to create a lasting legacy for you and your family. You can do this by developing and practicing a family emergency response plan, assembling a disaster supply kit, and signing up for alerts on mobile devices through the City’s CivicReady mass notification system.

Home Fire Escape Plan

Everyone should know how to escape if there is a fire in your home. By following some simple safety tips, you can create a home escape plan that’s right for you.

Plan

  • Draw a home escape plan that shows two ways out of every room.
  • Make sure windows and doors can be unlocked and opened quickly.
  • Have a special meeting place in front of your house or apartment where the family will meet

Prepare

  • If you live in a building with more than one level, have escape ladders for the upstairs rooms
  • Install smoke alarms on every level and in all bedrooms - test them once a month and change the battery each year

Practice

  • Count all family members at your meeting place
  • If someone is missing, tell the firefighters where that person may be. NEVER go back inside.

Escaping from fire

  • If a fire breaks out in your home, remember the following tips:
  • Check the door with the back of your hand – if you feel heat, use your second exit
  • If there is smoke, crawl on your hands and knees to the nearest exit
  • Teach children how to get out of the house
  • Call 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s house
  • Remember; NEVER go back into a burning house

If you are trapped in a room

  • Stay low near the door or window
  • Put blankets, rugs, or pillows at the bottom of the door to keep out smoke
  • Signal out the window with a sheet, towel or flashlight
