Greetings from Chicago! I am at the annual ASCO meeting; the first full-on in-person ASCO meeting since 2019. The energy is high, and some of the progress is simply jaw-dropping. You would not be able to tell by looking at me, because I am wearing my mask; but I am in a distinct minority. Let’s hope COVID decided to take the weekend off…

Georgetown Lombardi Arts and Humanities Online Classes Build Communities Across the Globe

Since May 2020, the Georgetown Lombardi Arts and Humanities Program has offered more than 65 online classes, attracting participants from 22 states, 23 countries and six continents. In winter 2022, more than 225 participated in the classes each week, building virtual communities around creativity and artistic expression. Read the full story.
Dash Appointed to Richmond Foundation Professorship

Chiranjeev Dash, MBBS, PhD, MPH, has been named to the newly created George E. Richmond Foundation Professorship. The professorship recognizes the outstanding performance and ability of Dash, the assistant director of health disparities research and associate professor of oncology in the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Research. 2022 Cancer Center Support Grant Developmental Funds Awards

Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Developmental Funds Awards (one-year award at $10,000-$50,000), funded through Georgetown Lombardi’s CCSG, which is funded by NCI. Developmental funds, are available to all Georgetown Lombardi members with a cancer relevant research focus, including basic, clinical, translational or population sciences, with the exception that investigators who have received developmental funds twice within the last five years will not be eligible for additional funds. Projects must begin no later than Sept. 1, 2022, and be completed by Aug. 31, 2023. View full announcement. All applications are due Monday, June 6, to Sharon Levy (SGL5@georgetown.edu).
IDEAL (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-racism at Lombardi) Grants Request for Proposals
 
IDEAL Grants aim to contribute to a culture of respect, inclusion and belonging. These grants (12-month awards up to $10,000) are available to all Georgetown Lombardi members (any track, any rank). We anticipate funding four to five awards. Proposals must describe activities that promote diversity, equity, inclusion and/or anti-racism in any aspect relevant to the mission of Georgetown Lombardi, including research, teaching, service, clinical care and community outreach and education. Proposals aligned with the National Cancer Institute’s Goals for Inclusion and Equity are welcome. View full IDEAL Grant announcement. Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, June 6. Submit proposals by email to Kristi.Graves@georgetown.edu. Award notifications will be made end of June / early July 2022, and funding will be awarded for use July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023.
Request for Applications: ACS Research Priority Area: Screening

The American Cancer Society has announced a new RFA focused on testing innovative solutions to improve cancer screening and early detection. This could entail better implementing existing screening tests, adapting current tests and technologies, or developing new tools. Funds will support at least two Interdisciplinary Team Awards, seven Research Scholar Grants, and two Clinician-Scientist Development Grants. Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation 2022 Medical Research Awards
 
Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation funds promising physician scientists who are applying novel and state-of-the-art techniques to address fundamental problems in the genesis and treatment of blood related cancers. Applications for this year’s grants are welcome from two junior faculty members at Georgetown Lombardi – one who is conducting mainstream or conventional research and one who is conducting complementary or integrative research. Projects will be funded for a three-year period at $75,000.00 per year. View grant guidelines and application (view application as a Word doc). Electronic grant submission must be received by Friday, August 26 at grants@gabriellesangels.org; three hard copies of the application must be postmarked by that date as well.
