March 2024 Newsletter

Hi Neighbor,

We're in the midst of our budget season and its the time when we set priorities in our community. Preparation is probably the best way to describe our mindset on the council right now. We need to be prepared for a tighter future budget with the lack of overall revenues coming into the city coffers. It's important to look beyond our current needs and anticipate our future challenges. This approach has saved us many times in the past when revenues have dipped and our reserves were needed to fund our obligations.

Thank you to all who joined me on my last State of the District webinar last week. If you missed it, feel free to view it here. In it, I talk about my 2024 priorities and welcomed guests, Police Captain Robert Torres, and Deputy City Manager Omar Passons.

Please feel free to reach out to my office should you need assistance or have questions. Our email is district6@sanjoseca.gov and our office number is 408-535-4906.

Best,

Dev

City Council Updates

Budget, Budget, Budget

Here's a link to the 2023-2024/2024-2025 City Budget Calendar

The next major step in the budget process is the Public Hearing of the 2024-25 Mayor's March Budget Message on March 12, 2024 in the Council Chambers. The final meeting of the year on June 18, 2024 will complete the budget voting and approvals.

What's Going On?

We are pleased to share with you that the pedestrian safety improvement project at Curtner and Briarwood is completed. The enhanced crosswalk with flashing beacons and pedestrian refuge island will make it safer for residents crossing at this location.

I invite all District 6 residents to be part of the 2024 Great American Litter Pick-Up on Saturday, April 22nd. This is a city-wide event when our office teams up with community leaders to clean-up San Jose. Neighbors who sign up to host their own event will be provided with trash bags and litter sticks. After your event, the Beautify SJ team will pickup any full trash bags your group collects. All you have to do is gather a few volunteers and choose a location to beautify. I hope you can join me and other San Jos residents in this effort to improve our city. If you would like to host your own litter pick-up event, please email diana.alanis@sanjoseca.gov

Reporting Suspicious or Abandoned Vehicles

Residents may call SJPD non-emergency at (408) 277-8900 to inquire when they believe a vehicle might be stolen. For all other abandoned vehicle requests, utilizing the SJ311 portal is the most efficient way to have a vehicle investigated. It is interactive so you will be kept apprised of the actions taken throughout the investigation.
