Charge Conference on Sunday July 25

Dear Beloved of St. John’s,

One of the questions that has come up in conversations prior to my arrival at St. John’s as well as since I’ve arrived is whether or when St. John’s is going to fill our Associate Pastor position. I’m pleased to share that our Staff-Parish Relations Committee met on June 30 and agreed to bring the Rev. Tiffany Hollums onboard as our new Associate Pastor.

Because Tiffany is clergy, we will need to hold a Charge Conference to approve her part-time compensation package. We have scheduled a Charge Conference with that single agenda item for Sunday, July 25 immediately following the 11 a.m. worship service, to be held in the Family Life Center. It is my hope that we will be able to bring Tiffany on staff very soon after that and welcome her to our wonderful St. John’s family!

Blessings,

Randall W. Partin

Changes to Our Electronic Newsletter

It has come to our attention that some of our church members have not been able to receive our electronic newsletter. After researching the issue, we have learned that this is due to the content of what is being included in each issue. By including multiple large pictures, a large number of links to email addresses (for contact purposes), long stories, and repeating links (like multiple giving links) we are risking that our newsletter ends up marked as dangerous SPAM and never gets to our readers. You may notice that the newsletter today has fewer images and shorter stories. This is to try to address the problem and make sure that every member of our church is able to read our newsletter.
Asbury Cafe Baking Coordinator Needed

Astonishing fact - Asbury Cafe has been running for 60 years. In the past 60 years over $1.5 million has been donated to organizations that feed the hungry of Albuquerque. About 25 years ago, St. John's became involved in the Asbury Cafe, and up until this year, the people that started coordinating 25 years ago were still the coordinators at St. John's. This charity needs new coordinators to continue.

This year there is no Baking Coordinator. This means that making pies, freezing pies, baking pies, and coordinating freezer storage is a waste because the pies will not get to the NM Fairgrounds... Click here to read the full article and learn more about the Baking Coordinator and other volunteer positions that need to be filled for Asbury Cafe.
Front Desk Volunteers Needed in September

The office needs coverage the week of September 13-17: Monday through Thursday: 9a.m. – 4p.m., and Friday, 9a.m. – 12p.m. If you can only cover certain hours, that would be helpful too! If you’re interested and available to help out during any of these days, please contact Debbie at 883-9717.
St. John's Email Bible Study

St. John's Email Bible Study continues with Perfect Sevens: Symbolic Numbers in the Bible.  Seven, when used symbolically, means “a perfect number of.” But sometimes it just means “7,” and often there are exactly 7 of something because seven is a symbolic number. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell whether the number is symbolic or exact. The same is true of twelve and forty.  Join us as we examine the three most significant symbolic numbers in the Bible. Pick up a study guide in the Narthex, or receive daily study tips by email by writing or calling Regina Hunter at drhunter@nmia.com or 294-2877.

Coffee, Tea, and Donuts!

Come by the Sonshine Cafe Sunday mornings between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for “pay what you can” hot coffee or hot tea, and this week - donuts! The suggested donation for donuts is $1. Ice water is available to cool you down and stay hydrated! Everyone is welcome! Stop by before or after Abide, before or after Sunday school or before the Traditional Service. Let’s come together over a cup of hot coffee with people from other services! One cup. One church.

St. John's Preschool Plus Ministry

Saint John’s Preschool Plus is getting ready to re-open! Monday, August 9, 2021 will be our first day of school! Our teachers are busy working and getting their classrooms ready for their new students. The week of August 2nd – 5th will be full of professional development and will end with a teacher appreciation lunch. Our First theme to start the year will be “Beginning to Learn About Ourselves and Others”. This will be a great way to learn God made us so different, so alike, and with an abundance of Love that we can share with each other!

We are looking for Families! If you know a family that needs care, please invite them to be a part of Saint John’s Preschool. We have a preschool brochure that is located at the Welcome Center.

During Preschool hours, everyone that comes into the Preschool is REQUIRED to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status. Saint John’s Preschool is licensed through the State of New Mexico and is required to adhere to the State of New Mexico Child Care Regulations. Thank you for working with us and protecting our little ones!

Blessings and Peace,
Cathy Lubold

July Special Offering: Wesley House

This month we have the opportunity to support Wesley House at UNM. College Wesley Foundations are so important in developing the faith of young adults as Wesley House has shown over the years. The Wesley House at UNM has housed up to eight students, and provided meals, Bible studies and fellowship to many more. The pandemic has hit Wesley House hard. Fewer students in the house has meant less money from rent. And since Conference funds dried up several years ago, Wesley depends on the generosity of folks like us in the local churches. A Christian home away from home means so much to young adults in a vulnerable period of their lives. Please give generously to Wesley this month.
Virtual Prayer Quilt

Carla Greenleaf is the recipient for the prayer quilt currently on display.

In lieu of tying knots, please pray this prayer (or your own prayer) for Carla: “Holy Father, we ask for healing, strength, and for Carla to be surrounded with your love as she struggles through health issues. Amen.”
