Happy Victoria Day long weekend! There's some great activities and events being planned around the Council, including an exciting opportunity with the Ottawa REDBLACKS this fall! Keep scrolling to learn more about this fun event and how you can purchase tickets, along with other important news.

Ottawa REDBLACKS "Scouts Night"
Saturday, September 24 at 7:00pm
TD Place - Ottawa
While September may seem far away, we're already planning some exciting activities for the Council!
The Ottawa REDBLACKS CFL team will be hosting a “Scouts Night” at their game on September 24 and you're invited! In addition to being able to cheer on the REDBLACKS as they face off against the Toronto Argonauts, youth, parents, and Scouters will have the opportunity to camp on the TD Place field after the game!
Two packages are available to Groups in Voyageur Council:
Sleepover Package ($40 per youth member or $36 per Scouter/parent)
- Includes ticket into the REDBLACKS game
- Custom badge for youth members
- Camp out on the field post-game
Game Package ($30 per youth member or $26 per Scouter/parent)
- Includes ticket into the REDBLACKS game
- Custom badge for youth members
Groups must be registered by August 1
(this will ensure that badges are ready by game day!)

Atlético Soccer Club "Scouts Night"
Thank you to everyone who attended the Scout Night event on May 7! It was great to see so many Scouters, youth, and parents cheer on Atlético!
Group Commissioners: If your Group purchased tickets, you will receive an email from Kira Berger in the coming days, confirming the amount of tickets purchased and how many badges you require. If you do not receive an email by Friday, May 27 and your Group did purchase tickets, please contact Kira directly.

Grizzly Den
Submission deadline was yesterday, May 20
Groups/Sections who submitted documentation are encouraged to check their emails to see how they can sign up for presentation slots.

In partnership with Hydro One, the Grizzly Den is an exciting opportunity for Ontario Groups and Sections to access funds for next level adventures!
Similar to the "Dragon's Den" and "Shark Tank" television shows, youth will pitch adventure ideas to the Grizzlies, a panel of judges, who will award Sections a dollar amount to put towards their amazing adventure!
Submission dates and deadlines

The Grizzly Den is a one-year program; Sections must apply during the application period and the date of the planned adventure must occur before May 31, 2023.
Please note: this program will only be available to Groups in Ontario as it is solely supported by Hydro One, an Ontario-focused company.

Are you in the process of planning or thinking about planning a multi-Group, Council-wide, or previously described “Area” event? If so, keep reading!
The Event Management Playbook webpage on Scouts.ca has recently been updated. On the webpage, you’ll find a planning guide to support the development of great events as well as an application form that must be filled out during the initial process of your planning. Depending on the type of event you’re planning, the application form will be sent to the Council Key 3 or an Event Support Scouter, who will guide you through next steps and offer support to ensure your event is safe, fun, and successful!

NEW: Request from the Event Support Team
The Event Support Team is compiling a list of the events that take place across the country. This will allow them to plan team expansion and strategic efforts for the 2022-23 Scouting year.
We need your help! To allow the Event Support Team better support Council/multi-Group/former "Area" events in the upcoming Scouting year, we are compiling a list of events that will be taking place between September 2022-August 2023. If you are planning an event, please contact Kira Berger with the following information:
- Event name
- Is this a day event or overnight event?
- Approximate anticipated attendance
- Approximate cost per attendee
- Month that the event will take place

Council Voting Representatives - Election Time
It’s election time at Scouts Canada and an election will be taking place in Voyageur Council!
Eligible members will receive an email allowing them to cast their vote for their preferred representative. As a reminder, all Scouts Canada members born on or before December 31, 2008, and who are members within the three Councils that are having elections are eligible to vote.
Voting will remain open until June 13, 2022.
Election results will be posted on Scouts.ca on June 17, 2022.

Venturer White Water Canoeing Instruction Camp
Level 1 and Level 2
June 11-12 at Madawaska River, Palmer Rapids
Registration deadline is June 3
Maximum number of participants per course: 20
White Water 1

Objective: To experience white water canoeing and instruction in a safe environment, including basic safety, paddle strokes, and relevant techniques and strategies to prepare them for white water outings with supervision. Participants should leave the course wanting to get some further experience and training.

Prerequisites: Camp Opemikon flatwater paddle instruction or equivalent experience.
White Water 2

Objective: To further develop moving water skills among Scouts Canada members. In White Water 1, participants were introduced to the basics and have gone on moving water outings since to practice. White Water 2 prepares the participants to be comfortable navigating Class 1 and 2 rapids with minimal supervision. Participants should be able to define a route through the rapids as well as know what not to attempt to run.

Prerequisites: White Water 1 or equivalent experience. Some river running experience desirable.

Tandem Canoe Paddling Skills Course
June 17-19 at Camp Opemikon
Registration deadline is June 10
Maximum number of participants: 30
This course is for Scouts age and up, including Scouters! The course fee of $40 includes camping, canoe rental with paddles, dining hall rental (for program only), and Paddle Canada fee.
Whenever possible, participants should bring their own PFDs.
Groups must be self-catered for food or contact Ross Trusler if interested in catering for a fee.

Uplifting Scouting Stories: Inclusion and Belonging
We know Scouters from around the country are doing amazing things to build a diverse and inclusive culture in their Group and begin their own local reconciliation journey.
On May 26 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm EST, Scouts Canada will be hosting a virtual panel discussion to let some of these awesome Scouter share their stories and testimonials.
We are collecting your questions on diversity, equity, inclusion, and reconciliation in advance, in order to build the conversation around what matters most to you. The panel of your peers are looking forward to sharing the best practices they have acquired and answering your questions on how you can do it too! Advanced Wilderness First Aid Course
|
|
1st Carp Scouts is offering an Advanced Wilderness First Aid course on June 4-5 (8:30am-5:00pm both days)! The course will take place at 1350 Baseline Road in Ottawa and the cost is $190. This course provides a comprehensive and practical perspective on dealing with common wilderness injuries through to life threatening situations. The program is divided between classroom and practical skills, utilizing scenarios and simulations to enhance learning and develop effective interventions and competent patient care.
Basic Wilderness First Aid is a prerequisite, completed within the last 12 months. This course also serves as a re-cert for those with current Advanced Wilderness First Aid certificates, or whose Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification expired in the last 12 months or so. The Beach Party is back on! The annual Carleton Camporee will take place on May 27-29, 2022 at Fitzroy Provincial Park.
This is an all-section camp with a full traditional camp program: Beach party theme, parade, rounds of activities/games, competitions, campfire, Scouts Own. This year, we expect about 500 attendees, in our usual location that accommodates 1,200.

Meet Chief Scout, Survivorman Les Stroud!
As you may be aware, Survivorman Les Stroud was officially invested as Scouts Canada’s Chief Scout in December 2021. The ultimate adventurer, Les brings expertise in outdoor survival skills with a genuine connection and respect for nature. Through the year, the Chief Scout meets with Scouters and youth at Group meetings, ScoutCons, camps, and award ceremonies.
If you would like to invite Les Stroud to attend an event in the 2022 year, please fill out this form. Only events taking place after June 1st, 2022 will be considered to allow time for coordination. Depending on the Chief Scouts travel schedule, virtual attendance may be the only option.

Voyageur Groups in Quebec: All Groups in the Outaouais/Gatineau region (QC) may operate under Stage 5 Scouting.
Voyageur Groups in Ontario: All Groups under all Ontario Public Health Units may operate under Stage 5 Scouting.
