As we welcome the arrival of spring and longer days, the Museum of Art is delighted to announce the installation of exciting new acquisitions by the Bolivian Aymaran artist Alejandro Mario Yllanes. The BCMA becomes the first American museum to bring a painting by Yllanes into its collection. We also look forward on March 21st to the opening of Empires of Liberty: Athena, America, and the Feminine Allegory of the State, curated by Julia Katherine Fiori ’24. Finally, we are thrilled to shed new light on an 18th century terracotta medallion featuring the American scientist and statesman Benjamin Franklin, which has recently joined the Museum’s holdings. And for friends off campus, please note the opening of two BCMA exhibitions on the road: There Is a Woman in Every Color: Black Women in Art, opening at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington (on view March 16th—May 26th) and Mina Loy: Strangeness Is Inevitable, opening at the Arts Club of Chicago (on view March 19th—June 8th).

We look forward to seeing you at the Museum!
