County Updates
MontcoStrong 2021 Hospitality Industry Recovery Program
Applications are still being accepted for the MontcoStrong 2021 Pennsylvania Hospitality Industry Recovery Program (sometimes referred to as “CHIRP” statewide).  Please note that earlier today DCED put out a social media post that made it seem like the program was closing statewide soon – that is not the case in Montgomery County and other counties in the region.
  • 130 grants for approximately $5 million have been awarded from the MontcoStrong 2021 Pennsylvania Hospitality Industry Recovery Program. We are still accepting applications and anticipate awarding the remaining program funds (approximately $4 million) by mid-May. As of this morning, we have 346 applications. The full program information can be found at www.montcopa.org/PAHIRP. The updated list of awardees to date will be posted next week; this allows the RDA a few days to reach out to awardees before the list is posted.

**One item to note on eligibility, many businesses are unsure of their NAICS code. Often times, without connecting the two concepts, this code is already in their possession as the “Business Activity” code they are putting on their business tax returns.

A special opportunity for students to use their skills in an effort to support local businesses develop an online presence in the Collegeville area.

The U-Imagine Center for Integrative and Entrepreneurial studies is pleased to announce that Ursinus College has been granted another round of funding to provide support to 10 local small businesses this summer through its Digital Spark program, free of charge.
Digital Spark partners college students with small businesses or startups for 8 weeks in the summer to provide digital media services. This year we are hoping to provide hybrid services, with students working 2 days remotely and 2 days on-site, should circumstances permit. This program has provided support to 72 businesses in our community over the last 5 years.  Students are paid a stipend from the college and work with their business client on a project that can reasonably be completed in 8 weeks. Areas of need that could be supported include, but are not limited to:
  • Marketing/Communications
  • Digital Marketing promotions for a launch of a new product initiative or start-up
  • Development or enhancement of Social Media/Digital Marketing presence
  • Competitive Analysis/Market Research
  • Data Collection and Organization

Details are included in the application and can be found here.

Gov. Wolf Revises Mitigation Orders
The Governor's office has revised and lifted some of PA's COVID-19 mitigation restrictions, effective April 4th.
  • Effective April 4, restaurants may resume bar service; alcohol service will be allowed without the purchase of food; the curfew for removing alcoholic drinks from tables will be lifted; and indoor dining capacity will be raised to 75 percent for those restaurants that are currently self-certified and those that undergo the self-certification process.
  • The governor also announced revised maximum occupancy limits for indoor events to allow for 25% of maximum occupancy, regardless of venue size, and maximum occupancy limits for outdoor events to allow for 50% of maximum occupancy, regardless of venue size.
  • Eliminate out-of-state travel restrictions.
Federal and State Tax Deadline Extended
Pennsylvania will delay its tax filing deadline from April 15 until May 17, after the Internal Revenue Service announced it is delaying the federal tax filing deadline until May.
Both PA and federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021.
This means taxpayers will have an additional month to file from the original deadline of April 15.
