Hi!

Time is something that continues to steamroll all around us. There never seems to be enough of it. But one thing I do know is that September is the time of the year that ushers in fall. t has always seemed that September brings with it the most dramatic effect on seasonal changes.

For example, don’t you just love to drive through the fallen leaves?  Don’t you look forward to wearing big, oversized sweaters, as the weather becomes crisp and cool? Aren’t the colors on the leaves amazing? You should take a drive through the Georgia mountains and into Tennessee to experience the most beautiful orange and gold color splashes that nature unleashes on the trees for our eyes to marvel. Visit a library first, to plan your trip!

Also, we may all have those moments on which we can reflect and appreciate the changes brought on by the month of September. Staff at public libraries celebrate September as National Library Card Sign-Up Month.
ARE YOU READY TO #READLIKEJOAN ?
Are you ready to #ReadLikeJoan? Throughout the month we have been celebrating National Library Card Signup Month. Now, we have one more great way for you to join in the fun. In honor of our late Commissioner Joan Garner and the recently renamed Joan P. Garner Library at Ponce de Leon, Fulton County Commissioner Natalie Hall-District 4 invites you to get your library card (or renew your expired card) and #ReadLikeJoan.

Take a selfie with your new (or newly renewed card) or your favorite library book and post it with #ReadLikeJoan and tag @fulcolibrary. We'll be featuring your photos on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram! Don't forget to stop by the newly renovated Joan P. Garner Library and check out the beautiful new space!

National Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 to October 15. During this month of celebration. The date is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries. We pay tribute to the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

MASKS REQUIRED IN ALL LIBRARIES
Due to a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases locally and nationally, the Board of Commissioners has updated its policy on mask requirements to protect the health and safety of our employees and the public while visiting our facilities.

Effective Thursday, August 5, masks are required for all employees and visitors in Fulton County facilities, regardless of vaccination status.

In addition, all meeting and conference rooms will be closed to the public. Study rooms will remain available, but limited to no more than 2 persons in a room at any time. Visit our website for more information on this change.

If you know someone who just welcomed a baby into their family, you're not alone! Nine of the top ten birthdays from 1994 to 2014 were in September (the only exception being July seventh, which skews to the top of the birthday pile due to medically scheduled births avoiding the Independence Day holiday; several December dates are in the top 20 for similar reasons). Historically, the most common birthdays have always been between late September and early October in the United States, due to the relaxing time off around the winter holidays enjoyed by prospective parents.
Why not use library resources to welcome the newcomers to your circle of friends and family? If you're feeling crafty, you can learn how to Crochet a Donut RattleLoom Knit a Baby Cocoon, or Sew a Pair of Baby Bloomers with video tutorials, downloadable patterns, and engaging forum support from Creative Bug.
If you're a more advanced crafter, check out our extensive collection of pattern books in Overdrive, including recently acquired magazine titles like Ultimate Knitted Toys CollectionUltimate Granny Square Collection, and the Fall/Winter 2021 Better Homes and Gardens Quilt Sampler.

If you're a hopeful, expecting, or new parent yourself, don't forget that the library is a great resource for all sorts of pregnancy and parenting titles. We hope you're invested in raising readers with Fulton County Libraries.
