Almost Summer -

Do you remember those Sounds of Summer that still can make your heart skip a beat? Up and down the streets, all summer long, there were certain sounds reminding us that it really was summer and there was reason to smile. From splashing to crickets and fireworks; from bike bells and sizzling grills to baseball games; and finally to live music. We look forward to this beautiful noise. Perhaps this summer will be even more special, as live music has been rather quiet the last few years. So, let’s get ready and embrace all of these sounds on our horizon. Los Gatos is ready.

Get your calendars out and mark these dates:
  • We welcome back the The Promenades. Every Thursday evening beginning June 16th – August 4th, N. Santa Cruz Ave. will be for pedestrians only. Everyone, all ages, are invited to promenade- enjoy live music, food and fun in Downtown Los Gatos. Bring the whole family. Kids’ activities will happen between 5- 8 pm. Music begins on the North Stage at 5:30 pm and at 6:30pm on the South Stage. Grab a bite to eat from one of our great restaurants and shop in our great shops that will stay open late. For more information and the band line up click here.
  • Two weeks later, on Wednesday, June 29th, Jazz on the Plazz will make its grand entrance back into town and into our hearts. How we have missed you! This year, this renowned music series will be dedicated to the great American composer, bandleader, songwriter, and lifelong humanitarian - Dave Brubeck. Music will start at 6:30 pm and last for two hours. Bring a picnic dinner or pick one up from participating restaurants and join with other locals for fun at the Town Plaza Park. Concerts will happen every Wednesday evening through August 17th. For details click here.
  • Our last series of the summer will be Music in the Park. Beginning on Sunday, July 17th and running through August 21, these concerts will delight all families between 5 -7 pm on Sunday evenings on the Civic Center Lawn. We encourage you to bring a picnic dinner, enjoy the warm summer sunshine and dance the early evening away.

Readers, plan accordingly and pace yourselves. Along with these music series, there is other live music throughout Town that is on-going. Please see the list below.

In other news, three cheers for the Town Planning Commission who finished deliberations on the draft General Plan 2040. Now, the Council will consider the Plan, the EIR and the Planning Commission’s proposed changes. While there is some controversy regarding the number of proposed housing units in town, the Chamber is confident that Council members will take all facts and opinions into consideration. We anticipate seeing the final result soon!

Let’s Mix and Mingle – there are Derby Parties this weekend along with a Red Ribbon Cutting at the new Montebello Market. Congratulations to the crew running the show there. The place looks fabulous.

Thanks to Gali Winery for hosting our April Mixer. We are fortunate to have you in Town. This month we will network at Spenga on Wednesday, May 25th. At the same time we will celebrate their Grand Opening with a Red Ribbon Cutting Celebration.

Summer awaits us. May you anticipate the sounds with excitement and joy. We certainly do need some joy right now.

Cheers.
Catherine

Senior Survey Results
The Town recently completed the Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults (CASOA)TM, which provides a statistically valid survey of the strengths and needs of older adults as reported by older adults themselves.

This report is intended to enable the Town, community-based organizations, the private sector and other community members to understand more thoroughly and predict more accurately the services and resources required to serve an aging population. With this data, stakeholders can shape public policy, educate the public and assist communities and organizations in their efforts to sustain a high quality of life for older adults.
