"Through endless time God's greatest gift is continuously given in silence. But when mankind becomes completely deaf to the thunder of His Silence God incarnates as Man."

Meher Baba
The Everything and the Nothing, p. 74
Dear Meher Center Family and Friends,

A loving Jai Baba and happy Silence Day to all. Tomorrow is the date when Meher Baba began His physical silence in 1925. Of His silence He said: “My outward silence is not a spiritual exercise. It has been undertaken and maintained solely for the good of others.”

Meher Center will be open for day visits on Saturday, July 10 from
11 a.m. - 5 p.m. If you plan to visit, please keep in mind:

  • To remember and honor the Silence Meher Baba kept for 44 years, Meher Center will be observing silence.

  • Please call the Gateway before 5 p.m. Friday July 9 to reserve your Saturday visit (843-272-5777).

  • All visitors must stop at the blue tent by the inner gate for check-in and check-out. We ask that all first-time visitors wait to come another day.

A last reminder that Meher Center’s board will be holding a virtual meeting on Tuesday, July 13 at 8 p.m. EDT, which can be accessed here. The short presentation will talk about the reopening of the Center, answer some questions submitted ahead of time, and end with a song by Billy Goodrum.

In Baba's love and service,

Silence Day at Meher Center: A Written Story
By Wendy Haynes Connor
First published in Divya Vani in September 1966, this article written by
Wendy Haynes, then aged fifteen, gives a glimpse into the celebration of Silence Day at Meher Center during Beloved Baba's lifetime. Rich with Baba's own words about His silence, His cable to Elizabeth and Kitty on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of His silence and the beautiful details of the community and surroundings at the Center, this is an inspiring piece for commemorating this day.

"Baba's Silence was so natural"
In this brief talk, Meherjee Karkaria, a close lover who first met Baba in 1923, speaks about the power of Baba’s silence, and the beauty and creativity of His continual communication.
