On March 30, President Joe Biden signed the PPP Extension Act of 2021 into law, extending the Paycheck Protection Program an additional two months to May 31, 2021, and then providing an additional 30-day period for the SBA to process applications that are still pending.........Learn more
Shuttered Venue Operators Grant Application Informational Webinar
This informational webinar will highlight the opening of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant application which is scheduled for Thursday, April 8, 2021. Join us as we cover what documentation eligible entities will need to apply for an SVOG, insight on what the SVOG application process will look like and more.
As a reminder, all potential SVOG applicants will need to be registered in the federal government’s System for Awards Management (also known as SAM.gov) to apply. As the SBA prepares to open the SVOG applications, the dedicated SBA website, www.sba.gov/svogrant, which includes frequently asked questions, video tutorials (including one on how to get registered in SAM.gov), a preliminary application checklist and eligibility requirements, is the best source for program information.
On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act into law, which provides additional relief for the nation's small businesses and hard-hit industries for programs the SBA is currently administering and adds new efforts. Specifically, the new law includes:
  • $7.25 billion additional for the Paycheck Protection Program, including to expand eligibility to additional nonprofits and digital news services
  • Additional funds are allocated for the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program, and now allows businesses to apply for both a PPP loan after Dec. 27, 2020, and the SVOG
  • $15 billion additional for Targeted Economic Injury Disaster Loan Advance (EIDL) payments, including NEW $5 billion for Supplemental Targeted EIDL Advance payments for those hardest hit
  • NEW: $28.6 billion for the Restaurant Revitalization Fund for industry-focused grants
  • NEW: $100 million to establish a Community Navigator pilot program; grants will go to eligible organizations supporting efforts to improve access to COVID–19 pandemic assistance programs and resources.

We are excited to offer a 5-class beginner series beginning Monday, May 3rd at 11:15 am. This is a perfect class for students new to yoga, returning to practice after a hiatus, or anyone wanting to revisit the basics to deepen their practice.
This series will offer a supportive environment with all the supplies necessary to establish a fun and rewarding yoga practice. All you need to bring is yourself, a mat and all the needed props will be available in the studio. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own mat and/or other items if you prefer.
Students will learn a little yoga philosophy, breathing techniques, and many of the yoga postures traditionally found in yoga classes. The series will be progressive, building on previous classes and allowing the body time to adapt to the practice before advancing to the next posture.

Add Beauty to the Community and Support Your Garden Club
~ Buy a Brick! ~

While 2020 has had its challenges, one thing that continues to add beauty and respite to visitors and locals alike are the 10 community gardens maintained by the members of the Elk Rapids Garden Club.  Support for these gardens comes from the Club’s fundraising efforts and in 2020 the Club’s major fundraiser, the Garden Walk was canceled.

Interested in supporting the Garden Club’s great work? You can still do so by purchasing a brick on the Club’s Patron’s Path located at the Pedestrian Bridge Garden. A great way to honor someone special and the purchase is tax-deductible. Go to www.elkrapidsgardenclub.com/support/patronspath for further information and to complete your application.

RAVEN HILL DISCOVERY CENTER
WEEKLY UPDATE

To: Friends and Family everywhere
From: Cheri and Raven Hill
Date: April 3, 2021

Welcome to April, Everyone!

April showers may bring May flowers, but April also brings many birds back to northern Michigan from their winter homes. After the Vernal Equinox, the official beginning of spring in late March, a range of bird species arrive, including our state bird, the robin. Here at Raven Hill, the robins have been back for a couple of weeks, but I look forward to mid-April when the loons begin to appear here in the north. Soon after arriving here to breed, loon pairs work together to build their nest on the ground beside water or in shallow water. Then the adults incubate the eggs for about 30 days until they hatch. While baby chickens & ducks are precocious and can feed themselves right away, loon babies are semi-precocious. They hatch down-covered and active, with their eyes open. However, they depend on their parents for food. Baby loon chicks can swim & dive two or three days after hatching. For a couple of weeks, they rest on their mother’s back after swimming & diving, so they can warm up. By 12 weeks, they can fly. .......Continue Reading
